Definition of

Glimpse

The first thing we have to do is proceed to determine the etymological origin of the term glimpse. Specifically, we can establish that it derives from Latin, since it is the result of the sum of two words:

-“Vix”, which means “barely”.

-The noun “lumen”, which can be translated as “light”.

The first meaning of the concept included by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) in its dictionary refers to the visualization of an object in an unclear or dim manner due to poor lighting or distance.

GlimpseFor example: “After sailing for two hours, we managed to catch a glimpse of the island” , “In the darkness of the night, the young woman thought she caught a glimpse of someone approaching walking slowly down the alley…” , “The fog does not allow us to glimpse what is happening to the island ”. "other side of the street."

The idea of glimpse is also used to mention issues that are not material. A person glimpses something when they have little knowledge about the matter or when their knowledge arises from indications and conjectures : “I think I have a glimpse that Marta will not come to the party tonight,” “From what the manager told me, I have a glimpse that days will come.” complicated for the company” , “The president's speech allows me to glimpse that the economic measures he analyzes will favor the upper class” .

The action of glimpse, in a similar sense, can also be linked to a forecast , a prediction or a prediction : “Economists are already beginning to glimpse the end of the crisis for the second half of the year” , “The lack of information does not help to glimpse what will happen after the minister's resignation,” “The documentation released by the prosecutor suggests a dark future for the accused.”

In the same way, in this sense we find the fact that there are certain events that serve to glimpse the future. Thus, for example, when there is a motor show, it is established that its usefulness aims to “predict” what the trends and developments that will mark the sector in the coming months will be.

And that is what happens in fashion. In this way, when a catwalk or a “fashion week” takes place, it is established that it serves to glimpse what will be worn in the coming seasons.

Within the literary field, we find a long list of works that have the word in question in their titles. An example of this is the book “Vislumbrar la luz”, which was published in 2011 and was written by José Antonio de Piqueras.

Also mention “Vislumbrar la paz”, which belongs to the author Carlos María Perea. In 2016, this work was presented, which amounts to a study on the set of challenges that Colombia is considered to have ahead of it in order to achieve peace definitively. Hence, the set of activities in favor of said peace that have been carried out since the 1980s is also analyzed.
