Justice

For some philosophers, justice is a value that is associated with equity.

Value is a quality that gives things, facts or people an estimate , whether positive or negative . Axiology is the branch of philosophy that is responsible for the study of the nature and essence of value.

For objective idealism , value is found outside of people; For subjective idealism , on the other hand, value is found in consciousness (that is, in the subjectivity of the subjects who make use of value). For the philosophical current of materialism , the nature of value lies in the human being's ability to value the world objectively.

Courage as a moral quality

In another sense, values are moral characteristics inherent to the person, such as humility , responsibility , piety , solidarity , integrity , honesty , loyalty , generosity , gratitude and sincerity .

In Ancient Greece , the concept of value was treated as something general and without divisions, but from the specialization of studies, different types of values have emerged and have been related to different disciplines and sciences .

Values are also a set of examples that society proposes in social relationships. For this reason, it is said that someone "has values" when they establish relationships of respect with others, with tolerance and empathy . It could be said that values are higher-ranking beliefs, shared by a culture and arising from social consensus .

The theory of values implies the existence of a scale , which goes from positive to negative. Beauty , usefulness , goodness and justice are aspects considered valuable by society.

Benevolence

Kindness, benevolence and magnanimity are values that contribute to the development of social harmony.

Ethical conduct

Ethical behavior is one that is governed by values recognized at a social level. It involves acting according to the precepts established by morality.

In the life of a community, civility and altruism are valued values. People are expected to behave with social responsibility , showing commitment to their neighbors and based on respect for differences and diversity.

Values, of course, are also relevant inside the home. It is intended that in a family the members treat each other with love and ensure the well-being and happiness of their loved ones. If a person mistreats his parents, does not take care of his children and is selfish with his siblings, it will be said that he is someone without values.

In any case, there are values that affect the individual sphere but are admired socially. Perseverance , optimism , resilience and self-confidence are qualities that generally bring benefits or advantages to the person themselves, although they usually garner praise from third parties.

School

Education in values is necessary for the construction of a peaceful society.

Value as equivalence between abstract entities

In the scientific field, where we find different areas, the concept of value is used in a generally exact way to refer to the equivalence of two abstract things . The simplest example is the quantity , which we apply to material objects to count them and then we assign a number, a value, to store this information in our brain and be able to transmit it to another person without taking the objects.

Thanks to the use of numerical values, therefore, human beings are able to abstract various situations and share them with others through communication. If we tell a friend that "we saw three lizards in the garden yesterday" , he will associate this numerical value ( "three" ) with the quantity and will be able to imagine the picture even if he was not present.

We must remember, however, that all our discoveries and inventions are arbitrary and not absolute. This means that another species could create completely different sciences or theories and methods for understanding life that were not at all like ours, and could be much better. That is why the exact sciences are so difficult for most people to understand, because they are not natural nor have they been dictated by a divine entity, but rather arose from the reasoning of a series of people throughout history.

Computing and variables

In computer programming, values are everything that we assign to variables : among other possibilities, these are numbers, text strings or the condition of "true" or "false" . A variable is a space in memory in which a type of data defined by the user can be stored, within the possibilities offered by the language.

In numerical variables, for example, there can be byte, integer, floating point and double types, each with a greater range than the previous one (the last two, on the other hand, accept decimal numbers).

Assigning an incorrect value to a variable can cause different problems, both before and during execution. In large part, this depends on the degree of control exercised by the program used to write the code: if you let these errors pass, execution will be unpredictable.
