To ensure the tenderness of certain cuts of meat, it is common for them to be boiled for an extended period of time.

Of Latin origin is the word tenderness that concerns us now. It is a term that is the result of the sum of two components of said language: the adjective terno , which is synonymous with "tender" or "delicate", and the suffix -ura , which is used to indicate a result or an activity. .

Tenderness is the characteristic of something tender . This adjective can refer to something that is easy to split, cut or crack or that can be simply deformed . For example: “To ensure the tenderness of the meat, it is best to boil it for at least an hour” , “The characteristic tenderness of this dish is achieved thanks to its extensive cooking” , “Do not forget to control the tenderness of the preparation before serve" .

Tenderness as innocence or naivety

The concept is also used symbolically to refer to the candor , innocence or naivety of children or animals and the sensation that these issues provoke in adults: “When Juan asked me how babies got into the belly, It gave me a lot of tenderness” , “Pure tenderness: a puppy falls asleep while its owner caresses it” , “I lost my tenderness in adolescence: I am no longer fooled so easily” .

Unquestionably, for many people, the fact that their partner, their friends or their loved ones have tenderness as part of their personalities is a true value. And it is considered that this is a perfect way to express to others the sincerity, affection and love that is professed to them.

Precisely for this reason, it is especially valued that the couple possesses it, since this will mean that, at no time, they feel hesitant to express what they feel at any given moment, to say the love they profess or to get emotional in the face of a special situation.

The term tenderness in art

It should be noted that the word ternura appears in the title of various artistic works: the Argentine film “Extraña ternura” , the song by the Chilean band Lucybell “De sudor y ternura” , the soap opera “Tu rebel ternura” and the album by Álvaro Torres “Angel of tenderness” , among others.

Likewise, we must not forget other works that also include the word in question in their titles. This would be the case of the collection of poems “Ternura” (2001) by Gabriela Mistral .

In the same way, we cannot ignore that this word has also become one of the key pieces of a song of great international fame that has been performed both by Ana Belén , in 1993, and by Julio Iglesias , in In 1995 he included it in the album “La Carretera” . We are referring to the song “Derroche” .
