Stubborn

Obstinacy

Someone who is stubborn does not listen to other people's opinions.

Stubborn is an adjective that is used to describe a stubborn , stubborn or stubborn person. For example: “Why are you so stubborn? I'm telling you that the documents are not in that drawer” , “I have always been a stubborn man: I don't stop until I achieve what I set out to do” , “It is difficult for two such stubborn people to agree” .

The stubborn individual, therefore, remains firm in one position . He does not take into account the comments or opinions of others if he is convinced of what he thinks. On the other hand, although reality shows him that he is wrong or that a situation is not what he believes, the stubborn individual insists with his thoughts or actions .

In this way, stubbornness can be taken as something positive or negative depending on the context or considerations of each person. In some cases, it is valued that a person is stubborn since he demonstrates perseverance , firmness and conviction : despite the difficulties, he continues with his project.

About stubborn individuals

Human beings do not usually like to accept our weaknesses, admit that we do not understand something or that we know little about a certain subject. Many times, this leads us to act as if we have all the answers to other people's problems, and that is why we advise them too rigidly , as if our words represent the only correct path; If after this attitude we find ourselves with opposing ideas, then we accuse our interlocutors of being stubborn, simply for not acting as we expected .

That said, there is always the possibility that our advice is not good, or that there is better, more suitable advice for the other person. In a case like this, the supposed stubbornness of someone who refuses to accept our instructions can result in a real solution. Stories of this type take place in many families, when parents trace the path they want to see their children take, and they remain firm in their own decisions.

Many "stubborn young people" have become great professionals in all fields, and thanks to their resistance, humanity has made great leaps at a scientific and cultural level. This attitude is usually linked to an unusual conviction , to a self-confidence that is not easy to explain nor consistent with the other aspects of the personality: for example, many apparently insecure individuals act this way in specific cases, generally related to the vocation, even if it does not respond to his constant need to satisfy others.

Anger

Someone who is stubborn is not willing to change his position.

Some examples

There are situations, however, that show that stubbornness can be harmful . Suppose a man believes he can carry a very heavy box from one room to another. His wife and children tell him not to try since he will not be able to make such an effort.

The man , stubborn, insists that he can do it and lifts the box. As expected, he takes a few steps and the box falls as his arms cannot support the weight. In this case, the subject being stubborn results in a problem because it did not allow him to listen to and accept the advice of those around him.

Likewise, when parental advice is genuine and truly helpful, refusing to accept it can have very serious consequences. That is why it is said that a stubborn individual without reason attracts his own misfortune. However, sometimes those who seem to be acting stubborn simply do it so as not to give up their own dreams and sometimes they get a happy ending.
