Relevance

Tourism

Tourism is of great importance to the economy of many countries.

Relevance is the characteristic of that which is relevant (i.e., that which is fundamental, transcendent or substantial). What is relevant, therefore, has importance .

For example: “There is no need to make a big controversy out of this issue: it was just an irrelevant discussion” , “The relevance of the matter became clear when the club president gave his opinion on the matter at a press conference” , “The mayor promised to hire a relevant artist to perform at the city's anniversary celebrations” .

The obvious and the subjective

In many cases, the relevance of something is obvious . In a country where the tourism industry generates 72% of the wealth, no one would argue about the relevance of tourism to the local economy.

In other contexts, however, relevance is a much more subjective matter. One literary critic may consider a particular writer to be relevant in the national intellectual landscape, while another may say that the same author is not important but is merely someone who is intelligent or skilled at selling his work.

Technology

Social networks have relevance in modern societies.

The relevance of social media

Nowadays, it must be said that the term relevance is very commonly used to refer to social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Specifically, it not only establishes the very important role that these play in the daily life of any citizen from an entertainment point of view, who uses them almost as a public diary, but also to obtain information.

The number of people who turn to these platforms and applications on the Internet to find out what is happening in the world and in the sectors they are most interested in, whether it be politics, culture, economics, sports, etc., has grown considerably.

Trends

They have this information through tweets from other users and also through what is known as a trending topic. This is a term, also called topic of relevance or trending topic, which is used to refer to the most important issues of the moment around the planet, which are most talked about on social networks.

Twitter is where you can find the list of trending topics of the moment around the world. That is, the topics that are most relevant at that moment. Examples of issues that have reached that category are everything from Lionel Messi's goals to the results of the elections in Spain, including cases of political corruption or the release of new singles or music videos by the most famous artists.

Orographic and accounting relevance

Orographic relevance is an indicator that qualifies the importance of a mountain within a nation or region. It is a scale with a score of up to 100 .

In accounting , relevance is one of the qualitative characteristics that accounting data must have, such as comparability and reliability. Accounting relevance refers to the fact that the information must be important enough to exert some kind of influence on the decision-making of those who may use it.
