Suffering

A regret is a suffering.

Regret is a concept that is used in different ways. It may be the suffering or disgust experienced by a painful event.

For example: “The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his regret for the attack that killed hundreds of people in Baghdad,” “This candidate did not care about the people's grief over the death of their leader,” “The news “The death of Mr. Lotrolli caused me deep regret.”

Before moving forward with the definition, it is necessary that we know its etymological origin. In this sense, we can say that it emanates from the Latin pensare , which can be translated as “weigh” or “estimate.”

Expressions with the term regret

The expression “despite” refers to something that is done or said beyond certain factors . If a person indicates “This afternoon I am going to go running on the beach despite the rain,” they will be indicating that they plan to do physical activity even if the weather conditions are adverse.

There are numerous expressions that use this expression. This would be the case of “despite all the obstacles” : it is an adverbial phrase that is synonymous with “despite all the obstacles.”

In a similar sense, if a sports journalist comments that “The match will be played despite the incidents that occurred around the stadium,” he or she will be reporting that a sporting event will take place even when a conflict occurred.

The concept in music and literature

There are many songs that, throughout history, have been performed using the term regret in their titles. Among these we would highlight the following:

  • “Despite everything I still love you,” performed as a duet by the artists Camilo Sesto and Ángela Carrasco .
  • “Despite everything” , by Alejandro Fernández .
  • “Despite the distance” , by Hansel Camacho .
  • “Despite everything” , by Ana Gabriel.

The same thing happens in the field of literature. A good example of the use of the word in question is the work “Filomeno, a mi spite (Memorias de un Señorito descolocado)” . The Spanish writer Gonzalo Torrente Ballester published it in 1988, winning the renowned Planeta Prize . It tells the story of Filomeno Freijomil , a middle-class man whom the reader will meet both during the interwar period in the country and at the beginning of the Franco dictatorship. From his childhood to his maturity, a review of his life will be carried out, in which everything from his love affairs to his problems and political ideals will be discovered.

Balance

Weighing an element involves calculating its mass.

Weighing as a synonym for calculating a mass

Weighing, on the other hand, is the action that allows the mass of a body to be calculated through a special device.

When weighing, what is done is determining the weight of an object: “I am going to weigh myself before going to the doctor to tell him how much I have lost since my previous visit” , “Before mixing the ingredients, I suggest you weigh each of them to know if you are using the appropriate quantities for this recipe” , “When we weighed the croaker he had just caught, the man was surprised” .
