Perfidy

Betrayal

Whoever acts with perfidy deceives or violates an assumed commitment.

Perfidy is a concept used to refer to deception , infidelity or a mistake that consists of violating an assumed commitment. In order to know the meaning of the term in depth, the first thing to do is determine its etymological origin. In this sense, we can establish that it emanates from Latin since it is the result of the sum of two components of said language: per , which can be translated as “transgress” or “go beyond” ; and fides , which is synonymous with “faith” or “trust.”

When performing perfidy, a person states that he will act in a certain way and then changes on the fly, just when the other was expecting the announced behavior. This sudden change allows you to take advantage.

Perfidy in different areas

Perfidy is usually classified and prohibited within the various treaties and conventions that establish the principles to be respected by both sides during wars . Pretending to be a civilian, inventing physical incapacity due to combat wounds, or simulating surrender are considered acts of perfidy.

In everyday life, behaviors that fall within perfidy may also appear. Suppose two men argue and fight. The next day, one calls the other stating that he is sorry and wants to make peace; That's why he meets him in a square to talk. When the person summoned arrives at the place, he finds that the subject is waiting for him with three other men to beat him. It could be said, therefore, that the man who feigned repentance to summon the other acted perfidy.

Peace

Faking surrender is an act of perfidy in war.
