A political party is a public interest entity that works with the objective that citizens participate in democracy and represent their nation together. The people who make up a political party have the same interests, see reality from the same perspective, and move based on the same set of values ​​and principles, to carry out their projects, for which it is necessary to control to a certain degree the government of a country or region.

The political party is responsible for presenting candidates for various positions, for which it must carry out an electoral strategy . On the other hand, it must be concerned with the orientation and organization of legislative work, as well as articulating the preferences and interests of citizens, closely following their needs and opinions. Its role is fundamental for the structure of political support for certain social and economic programs, values ​​and interests.

Other activities carried out by a political party are the interpretation and defense of the people's preferences, the formation of governments and, in the legislative field, the establishment of political agreements .

Classification according to type

Among the types of political parties recognized by experts are the following:

  • Parties of notables : they appeared in the first half of the 19th century on the European continent. Their organization was basic, no more complex than a group of people in a specific geographic location, and their ideologies were not very strong. Its main objective was to provide citizens with certain particular benefits.
  • Mass parties : they originated between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, also in Europe. Currently, they also exist in some countries in Asia and Africa. Its most characteristic feature is a strong organization and an extensive base of members who collaborate with economic means. They have very close relationships with mass communication companies , unions and religious entities.
  • Electoral parties : they gained strength in the 70s, while the media grew and the welfare state lost importance. Their organization is not their most notable point, but they do great campaign work during election times.

The party as a territorial and administrative division

A party can also be a mid-level or lower-level territorial and administrative division .

The province of Buenos Aires ( Argentina ) is divided into 135 districts, among which are Avellaneda , Bragado , Chascomús , Ezeiza , La Matanza , Moreno and Tigre .

Something broken or separated
