Boldness is the fearlessness , courage or recklessness that reflects a person's behavior. The subject who acts boldly is called daring .

Boldness depending on the context

The meaning of boldness can present different nuances depending on the context . Its most positive meaning associates daring with courage . If you highlight the daring of a rescuer who jumped into the sea in the middle of a storm to save a drowning person, you will be praising his bravery.

Boldness, however, can also be something that deserves condemnation or criticism . In these cases, daring is linked to a lack of decorum or shame, or even something that is disrespectful. A young man who, in the middle of a mass, listens to a soccer game on the radio and even shouts the goals, will be being daring since he violates the codes and norms that must be respected in a liturgy of this type.

It is clear, therefore, that daring can be something worthy of applause or that deserves social punishment. It all depends on the context in which the action that is classified as daring takes place.

The term in the "Divergent" universe

The American writer Veronica Roth , born in Chicago in 1988 , is the author of the popular novel titled "Divergent" , which presents a society divided into five factions, each of which is dedicated to cultivating a particular virtue: Self-denial (the altruists), Erudite (the intelligent), Truth (the sincere), Cordiality (the peaceful) and Boldness (the brave). Every year, sixteen-year-olds must decide in a ceremony which faction to join, a step from which there is no turning back.

The Dauntless faction is also known as Dauntless and it highlights the bravery of its participants. The substance that represents it in the annual ceremony is burning coal. In the beginning, this group came together to fight against cowardice, to face their own fears and become stronger people.

For various reasons, most of the main characters decide to transfer to the Dauntless faction. Tris Prior , the young protagonist, leaves Abnegation because she does not feel attached to her principles and objectives. His mother, Natalie , had traveled the opposite path many years before, although this is discovered towards the end of the story . Tobias Eaton , known primarily as Four , given the four fears that govern him, also left Abnegation to follow Dauntless , escaping his father's physical and psychological mistreatment of him and his mother.

Although the main objective of the Dauntless faction is for its members to overcome their fears, the methods used during initiation and subsequent training stand out for their lack of consideration and excessive demands. The daring are constantly tested, forced to face all kinds of obstacles and difficulties, often at risk of death , and it is frowned upon for them to falter or think twice before acting.

There are many characters who, once inside Dauntless, doubt their decision, but there is no possibility of changing factions; The only alternative is banishment for life .

It should be noted, on the other hand, that Osadía is the name of a Spanish theater company created in 1996 whose shows are a combination of artistic manifestation and hairdressing.
