Axiology is dedicated to analyzing values.
The etymology of axiology leads us to the French word axiologie , which, in turn, comes from Greek. Specifically, it is the result of the sum of three clearly delimited components of said language:
-The adjective “axios”, which can be translated as “valuable”.
-The noun “logos”, which is synonymous with “treaty”.
-The suffix “-ia”, which is used to indicate “quality”.
Axiology is a theory or specialty of philosophy that is focused on the analysis of values .
Concept of axiology
To understand what axiology is, we must first know what is meant by value in the philosophical field. In this framework, a value is a quality that is part of a reality (an object or a subject). In this way, objects and subjects are estimable according to the values they have.
Axiology is responsible for studying values: their nature, the judgments that are developed from them, etc. It can be said that a value is a principle to establish a judgment, which is why axiology is related to ethics .
Axiology can help modify behavior based on ethics.
Classification of values
As a system , axiology is used for the identification and measurement of values . Therefore, it is often expressed that axiology is responsible for studying how individuals determine the value they give to things.
Thanks to axiology it is possible to establish certain parameters that contribute to understanding the thinking of human beings . There are subjective values , objective values , dynamic values , permanent values and other types of values. These values are organized differently in each individual and affect their behavior. The sum of all these behaviors configures the mode of action of a society .
By helping to understand how values are established, axiology can contribute to a change in actions from an ethical perspective .
Legal axiology
In addition to everything indicated, we cannot ignore the existence of what is known as legal axiology . This is the one that is in charge of what the legal values are, hence it proceeds to determine which values should prevail when shaping the law or directly proceeding to apply it.
It is based on principles such as justice, due process, legal certainty or the so-called effective protection.
Of course, we must not forget the existence of what is known as axiology of education or educational axiology. As its name suggests, it revolves around values related to education. It is considered that it revolves around several basic principles such as these:
-The values are fixed and immutable.
-Values, although they are chosen, can be cultivated in different ways.
-Values are also specific motives and criteria for conduct.
-Educational values and cultural values are the basis of education in general and of this type of axiology in particular. Hence we have to work around them with the students.
