Amoral

Dismissal

An amoral action lacks morality.

The word amoral is an adjective that can be applied to a person or a work carried out by someone . When the term refers to an individual, it is presented as devoid of moral sense . On the other hand, when applied to a work (generally of an artistic profile), it is said that its purpose does not pursue a moral goal .

The term is formed with the prefix "A" which means against, and the word "moral", from this union emerges amoral which means "not moral" and refers to those individuals who act differently from what the social group of which they are part considers it correct .

Differences between amoral and immoral

A person is said to be immoral when he goes against the laws that limit actions within what is correct and does certain things knowing that they are bad. That is, he thinks or acts differently from what the social group to which he belongs considers appropriate . Amoral behavior is neither morally desirable nor subject to censure, since it is considered from external parameters in relation to morality.

It is important, however, not to confuse between what is amoral and what is immoral . An immoral action is directly opposite to morality and good customs. That is, it is bad and incorrect behavior. An amoral person, on the other hand, lacks morals, so they cannot judge their actions as good , bad, right or wrong.

Injustice

There should be no confusion between what is amoral and what is immoral.

The term in Taoism

Amorality is usually defended by Taoism , which considers that morality corrupts humanity since it forces man to carry out good actions when he has not prepared himself for that purpose and prohibits him from carrying out bad acts even when it requires experimentation to understand the impact achieved by each of their actions.

Therefore, for Taoists, morality goes against the nature of the human being and is born from distrust and fear of others. According to this philosophical conception, humanity should not be subject to laws that govern or condition its behavior .

The amoral and the ethical

At this point it is necessary to establish the differences between ethics and morality . Ethics, as defined by Aristotle (although it is an older concept), is related to the way of being and character . It refers to the set of customs, character and disposition of man in life. That is, the way of life in the deepest sense of the word. While the concept of morality is linked to the relationship that exists between customs and norms. That is, the way in which people act according to the norms that govern that society.

The use of the term moral as a noun (it is written with a lower case letter) refers to a set of precepts and prohibitions that make up the human collective system at a certain time. Morality reflects a specific lifestyle. When used as a noun (written with a lowercase letter), it refers to someone's personal code of conduct . The moral code is the number of acts that govern a person's life. It contains your convictions and patterns of behavior and is what allows you to make moral judgments about your actions and those of others. It can also be used as a noun but with a capital letter to refer to the science that studies human actions in terms of goodness and malice.

There is an expression that is: "having very high morals" or "being high in morals" where the term refers to the emotional disposition , it means that a person has the strength or courage to do a certain thing. At this point we can say that morality is not only knowledge or a duty but also entails an attitude towards circumstances.

Machiavelli's vision

When we refer to morality as a neutral gender, we are talking about a facet inherent to human life that consists of decision-making and the need to structure our actions.

A moral act is the action carried out by a person when evaluated from moral criteria . To give an example, attending a gathering of friends is not an act that can be considered bad, however if the person participating in it must be working instead of being there, it is considered a morally bad act.

Nicolás Machiavelli, according to the ideas he has expressed, has become a synonym for amoral , because his policies attack moral criteria, that is, the set of beliefs and commands that are considered correct.

Finally, it should be noted that Amoral is a death metal band that was created in Helsinki ( Finland ) in 2000 .
