Single-family home

Home

A single-family home is a construction that is intended for a single family.

A single-family home is a construction intended for a single family . In this way, single-family homes differ from collective homes , where horizontal property is usually developed.

It should be noted that the closed and roofed space where people live is called housing , a concept that serves as a synonym for home , residence , domicile and house. Single-family , for its part, is an adjective that refers to that linked to a single family .

Single-family homes in cities

Currently, large cities have few single-family homes. Due to their characteristics, these houses result in a low population density , since only one family lives in a building . In this way, the number of inhabitants per surface is reduced.

Suppose that, on a block, there are twenty single-family homes. In each home, a family of four resides. Therefore, 80 people live in the block in question. On the other hand, in another block with the same area there are twenty five-story buildings and on each floor, a family of four lives. In this second block, in this way, there are 400 inhabitants . As can be seen, single-family homes generate less inhabited surfaces than collective homes.

big city

In large cities, collective housing predominates over single-family homes.

The case of Spain

In large Spanish cities, it is common for single-family homes to be built on the outskirts, since it is impossible in the center. Specifically, in this area located in the “heart” of the cities, what is established are blocks of flats of different heights in order to accommodate the greatest number of citizens.

As we have mentioned, on the outskirts of these towns and, above all, in towns close to large cities and with good communications between the two, many people live in single-family homes . In this way, they find the home that fits their characteristics, such as greater spaciousness and, fundamentally, more tranquility.

Thus, for example, in Madrid we find that very close towns such as Las Rozas and Majadahonda , among others, have become highly sought after places to enjoy single-family homes.

Characteristics of single-family homes

Single-family homes can be isolated (they have no contact with others), semi-detached (two single-family homes that are in external contact, although they are independent inside) or semi-detached (a single-family home that has two other single-family homes on each side).

It is important to note that, in general, single-family homes have a lower environmental impact than buildings , towers and skyscrapers. These single-family homes require less infrastructure and generate little vehicle traffic.

In addition to everything stated above, we cannot ignore other interesting data about this type of construction, among which the following stand out:

  • In the United States, isolated single-family homes are very popular, which, as a general rule, usually incorporate a large garden or patio to be able to undertake all types of activities.
  • On the other hand, we can establish that in the United Kingdom , however, semi-detached single-family homes are very present. They also have the particularity that they are identified by having a structure of quite narrow dimensions and also that they are quite elongated inside.
