The portion of food that is transported in a tray, box or container is called a viand.
Before entering fully into establishing the meaning of the term vianda , we have to know its etymological origin. In this sense, we can emphasize that it derives from French, more precisely from "viande", which can be translated as "food and sustenance."
However, we cannot ignore that this term in turn comes from the Vulgar Latin, from "vivanda", which emanated from the verb "vivere" ("to live").
The concept can be used to name the food that a human being eats and the food that is offered on the table. For example: "To pick up your food, you have to wait in line" , "The food they are giving to the children at school is very poor" , "You already have the food prepared: I hope you like it" .
Food concept
The idea of viand is usually used to name the container or tray that includes a portion of food . The meals, in this sense, can be moved from the home to another place to eat away from home (in a park, to name one possibility) or be delivered at lunch or dinner time in a specific place (a school, a company , etc.).
Let's say a family plans to spend the day at the beach. Before leaving the house in the morning, the mother prepares meals for all the members, with sandwiches, fruits and drinks. Then store the food in a portable refrigerator to transport the food to the beach. Finally, when it is time for lunch, each one takes a meal and prepares to eat.

In addition to all the above, we have to emphasize that the term vianda takes on special prominence in relation to a typical recipe from Spain. We are referring to the Madrid stew , which is a stew with exquisite flavor, ideal for the winter months and which is presented in three dishes or services, also known as vuelcos:
-The first is the one that is made up of the broth that has been obtained after cooking all the foods that take center stage in the stew.
-The second is the one that allows the diner to enjoy both the cooked chickpeas and the potato and the vegetables, mainly cabbages, that have been used.
-The third is the one that responds to the name of food. It is made up of meat: bacon, chorizo, blood sausage...
Healthy food
The notion of healthy food is currently used to name the tray of food that a nutritionist usually prepares for people to take to work and thus avoid junk food . The objective is that the subject, beyond the little time usually allocated to lunch in the middle of the workday, eats in a healthy way.
Finally, it must be emphasized that there is a food company in Spain that goes by the name of Viandas de Salamanca . These are stores that specialize in sausages, specifically ham, and are distributed in different corners of the country.
