Mousetrap

The mousetrap is a type of trap.

A trap is a device, artifice or tactic whose purpose is to trap, detect or disturb an intruder. The trap, a term that comes from the onomatopoeia tramp, can be both a physical object (such as a cage or a false door) or an intellectual challenge (a riddle).

Traps arose to help man in his hunting tasks. Thanks to the development of traps, people can capture animals and use their meat or skins. Nowadays, traps are also used for scientific purposes (for example, to retain an animal of a certain species for studies).

Types of traps

Animal traps, on the other hand, contribute to pest control. The mousetrap is a trap that, using a piece of cheese as bait on a hook, helps eliminate rodents.

There are traps that are intended to hurt or kill human beings. Antipersonnel mines , with explosives that are activated when someone steps on them, are part of these traps.

However, we cannot forget that a trap, also called a trapdoor , is that door that exists on the floor and that allows anyone to access another room in a house that is located on a lower floor. In the same way, we can emphasize that, sometimes, this type of doors are established so that, in the event of a serious case, the inhabitants of a home can hide in that area or escape through it and go outside.

Likewise, the existence of what is known as language traps must be established. These are games that exist for the fun of both children and adults. Specifically, among those are riddles.

A cage can function as a trap.

a deception

A cheat, in another sense, can be a deception or a hidden contravention of a law , rule or agreement. Cheating, therefore, is a malicious infraction or a trick that is carried out to harm or deceive someone: “Juan cheated: he took advantage of the fact that the referee did not have a good vision of the play to touch the ball with his hand and score a goal” , “As the purchase of alcoholic beverages by minors is prohibited, the boys cheat and present falsified documents to deceive the merchants” .

At a colloquial level, then, “cheating” is a phrase that attempts to express that, fundamentally in what games of chance are, some of the players are not complying with the established rules.

"Trap" as a title

Within the artistic field we would have to highlight the existence of the film “The Trap” . In 1999 was the premiere of this North American production, directed by Jon Amiel and starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones . It tells how an insurance agent is willing to do anything to recover a work of art and that is why she decides to establish contact with a famous white-collar thief.

Likewise, the singer Nika , framed within the pop-rock genre, has a song titled “Crystal Trap” that was released in 2006 .
