Thesis

Academic

A thesis is a presentation made by a student upon completing their training with the aim of accessing a degree.

Thesis comes from the Latin thesis which, in turn, derives from a Greek word. It is a proposition or conclusion that is maintained with reasoning . The thesis is an argued or justified statement of truth whose legitimation depends on each area. This means that a personal thesis on any topic is not the same as a scientific thesis .

In ancient times, the thesis arose from a dialectical test in which someone had to hold a certain idea in public and defend it against objections. A hypothesis is known as the proposition that is used to verify the veracity of a thesis based on valid arguments.

Theses in the academic field

A thesis is also the written dissertation that a student presents to the university with the aim of obtaining a doctorate degree. This study or research is known as a doctoral thesis .

Among the main characteristics that a thesis is considered to have, the following stand out: establishing a clear and concrete conclusion of the topic being addressed, not having contradictions, not being a mere opinion about the issues discussed in the document and being fruit of hard work where the fundamental pillars of the approach have been investigated. From this last point derives the fact that every thesis must be based on facts that can be verified.

The doctoral thesis process includes choosing a tutor, determining a topic, data collection, analysis, writing, and public defense before a panel of experts .

Training

To complete a thesis, study is essential.

Its link with dialectic

The notion of thesis is part of dialectics , a philosophical theory developed by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel . In this case, the thesis is a proposition that is considered true until the emergence of the antithesis , another proposition that contradicts it.

The dialectical process between thesis and antithesis concludes with the synthesis , the resulting proposition that overcomes the contradiction and generates a new thesis.

Theses in music and cinema

In the musical field, the term that we are now analyzing is also used. Thus, we have to emphasize that this is used to refer to any stroke of movement that is performed with the hand with the clear objective of marking the beat during the interpretation of a specific composition.

Tesis , finally, is the title of a film directed by the Spanish Alejandro Amenábar and released in 1996 .

One of the masterpieces of Spanish cinema is that production that we can say has become a classic. Ana Torrent, Eduardo Noriega and Fele Martínez are the protagonists of the story he tells us.

Specifically, the starting point is the writing of a thesis that a Journalism student is carrying out and which revolves around audiovisual violence. This topic, when investigated, will put the young woman in danger as she will discover the strange death of her teacher and also a snuff-movie where a girl is tortured and murdered.

All this without forgetting that the protagonist will begin to establish friendships and more with two boys who could be the murderers.
