Talent is a capacity that allows one to perform successfully in a certain field.

From the Latin talentum , the notion of talent is linked to aptitude or intelligence . This is the ability to carry out a certain occupation or to carry out an activity. Talent is usually associated with innate ability and creation, although it can also be developed with practice and training.

For example: "We need a talented player to play in the middle of the field" , "The novelist's talent was once again demonstrated with his latest book" , "We are looking for talents willing to join a growing company" . As can be seen in these examples, the term can be used to name both the capacity itself and the person who has said capacity.

Types of talents

Talent is usually understood as an expression of emotional intelligence , which consists of recognizing and managing one's feelings to create motivation and manage social relationships.

Innate or inherited talent is preserved throughout life, although it can be enhanced with studies and practices. Acquired talent , on the other hand, must be exercised almost constantly.

Acquiring certain talents is relatively easy (it is possible to attend literary workshops to improve the way you write, for example), although others can only be learned from experience and are sometimes even impossible to develop (the talent to lead or to mediate conflicts).

Music

Talent can be innate or acquired.

The concept in human resources

In the business field, and specifically within human resources departments, there is increasing commitment to the talent of workers. Discovering it so that employees can "exploit" it in the appropriate way means that they are much more satisfied with the tasks entrusted to them. And in the end the company is the one that benefits by obtaining better results and greater profits.

For this reason, we are currently focusing on developing disciplines in the workplace such as coaching or gamification that bring talents to light and provide the keys so that they can be used for the benefit of all.

Talent discovery

Currently there is a television program that is world famous and is based precisely on the discovery of new talents in the field of song. We are referring to "The Voice" or "The Voice."

In it, several established artists, without seeing them, listen to a series of people who consider that they have a wonderful voice and that they can carve out an important niche in the music market. If those already established consider this to be the case, they press a button and the "talent" becomes part of the program.

Specifically, you become a contestant and that means that for several weeks you are helped by your coach and other great professionals in the sector. In this way, you will be able to learn, improve and correct those mistakes that may prevent you from showing your full potential.

A unit of monetary measurement

Talent, finally, was a unit of monetary measurement used by the Greeks, Romans and other ancient peoples.

This talent is even mentioned in some biblical parables.
