Suicide

Despair

Suicide involves voluntarily taking one's life.

Suicide means voluntarily taking one's own life . It is a term that comes from two Latin words and a rough translation could be kill yourself . Various statistics place suicide as the fourth most frequent cause of death worldwide, with more than 9,000 attempts daily.

Among the behaviors that can be an indicator of imminent suicide are death wishes (with phrases such as “my life no longer has meaning” or “I can't find a reason to live” ), the inability to discharge anxieties, exhaustion of social life, impulsive behavior and marked introversion.

The importance of what was experienced in childhood

Some of these symptoms , on the other hand, are clearly opposite to each other, such as impulsivity and introversion, which often correspond to very different personalities . The first case is usually associated with people with strong character and apparent self-confidence, while the second is typical of those who feel that they are not worthy of the attention or affection of others. By deeply analyzing a person, all these assumptions lose weight, since a level of complexity is reached that always ends up taking us to the same point: childhood .

That is the key moment in the life and formation of human beings and animals; We open our eyes to a new world for us, and we see and hear things that will mark us forever, no matter how simple or irrelevant they may seem. From two extreme perspectives, a child who hears himself praised for everything he does will probably develop a personality very different from that of another who is constantly scolded. However, the mind is so complex that there is no reference document to know exactly how each story will end.

It is more likely, on the other hand, that the desire to take one's own life will arise in someone who has received excessive praise. The most logical reason is that this child will grow up feeling the need to be praised by his environment, and that will be dangerously combined with a very high level of self-demand to achieve achievements that merit the "flowers." Sooner or later, he will reach the limits of the bubble in which he was unintentionally trapped during his upbringing, and he will not stand that the world has not been waiting to congratulate him on his existence. If suicide were a mathematical question, then surely this individual would commit it because he could not bear reality .

Sadness

There are symptoms and signs that can reveal a suicidal tendency in a person.

Forms of suicide

Overdosing on medications or drugs, cutting one's wrists, ingesting poison, jumping from a great height, standing in front of a running train or hanging are some of the most common forms of suicide . It is worth mentioning that a very low percentage of those who wish to commit suicide go to the end.

Many times they self-harm to get the attention of those close to them, as a cry for help, because they want to feel better but they don't know how to get it . Most, on the other hand, remain in a stage that consists of daydreaming about their death, imagining it in a very high level of detail, but they never take the first step towards their own execution.

The cultural view

Suicide is analyzed in different ways depending on each culture . For many religions, suicide is a sin, although others believe that someone can take their own life by divine command. There are societies that consider suicide to be an honorable way to avoid humiliating situations.

It should be noted that there are also countries that classify certain supposedly accidental deaths as suicide, such as those that occur when an intoxicated person drives at 200 kilometers per hour and dies after colliding with another vehicle.

Among the most famous personalities and historical figures who committed suicide, we can mention Adolf Hitler , Ernest Hemingway , Kurt Cobain , Nero , Salvador Allende , Seneca , Sócrates and Violeta Parra .
