Headquarters is the place where an organization has its base.

The headquarters is a place where certain events take place or where the base of an organization is built. The term comes from the Latin sedes ( "chair" , "seat" ).

For example. «Brazil will host the 2014 soccer world championship» , «The 1992 Olympic Games were held in Barcelona» , «The company's main headquarters are in Montevideo» .

Corporate headquarters

A corporate headquarters , also known as headquarters , is the building that concentrates the most important activities and functions of a corporation.

The concept makes sense if the company in question has several offices; Otherwise, the headquarters will always be the only building of the company : «I work for Rautesbergz, a German company with corporate headquarters in Berlin and several subsidiaries around the world» , «A multinational of American origin plans to move its corporate headquarters to Mexico to reduce costs» .

Electronic presence

It is interesting to highlight the fact that, within the administrative field, there has been the creation in recent years of what is known as electronic headquarters . The development of the Internet network and the implementation of e-administration are what have allowed us to now talk about the aforementioned headquarters, which we can define as the electronic address that certain entities have available to citizens.

As an area of user service, information and even in many cases of processing, this electronic office is proposed, which has become a very useful tool to improve the services provided to citizens by the Public Administration.

In this way, we now find ourselves with the fact that there are many organizations that have this type of headquarters. In the case of Spain we could highlight, for example, the State Employment Service, the Ministry of Education, the Cadastre or Social Security.

All this without forgetting that they also have their electronic headquarters from city councils to provincial councils or even educational centers of various kinds.

Other uses of the term headquarters

The headquarters , on the other hand, is known as the place where cultural associations and organizations are managed and administered. This is a relevant term at a legal level, which is different from the registered office (the place where the center of the activity of a commercial company is located).

The Holy See is the name given to the structure headed by the Pope that includes the institutions of the Catholic Church . The concept is associated with the Vatican State , which is a sovereign state at the service of the Church .

In this way, within that scope, we would have to highlight the fact that there are other terms that use the word headquarters. Thus, for example, we find what is called vacant headquarters . This is an expression that is used to refer to that seat that is not occupied at that moment because the death of the Pope or the corresponding prelate has occurred.

The episcopal see is, in a literal sense, the throne of the bishop. The notion, in any case, is associated with the cathedral of a bishop.
