Reprimand

Scolding

A reprimand is a challenge or scolding.

Reprimand is a term that has its etymological origin in the Latin reprimere, which is the result of the sum of two clearly differentiated parts: the prefix re- , which can be translated as "again" or "backwards" ; and the verb premere , which is synonymous with "press" or "oppress."

The concept is used to name the scolding , challenge or scolding that is carried out vehemently. A reprimand can also be a sanction , fine , or other formal punishment.

For example: "The woman scolded her son after the teenager ran away from school," "Different sources claim that there was a strong reprimand from the president to the ministers at the meeting last Tuesday," "For their attitude." , the player earned a public reprimand from the coach", "The international federation's reprimand to the Brazilian driver cost his team 25,000 euros" .

Reprimand as a reaction

A reprimand is usually a response or reaction from someone to another person's fault . Suppose a student talks all the time in class, even when the teacher asks for silence. Given this disobedience, the teacher gives the child a reprimand.

In this specific case, the teacher can choose to publicly express her disagreement with what he has just done, to impose a punishment for his behavior or, directly, to open a report and expel him from class, in cases where the situation produced has been serious.

Anger

Reprimand is intended to correct behavior.

The action of the parents

Parents are the ones who, as a general rule, carry out the most reprimands regarding the behaviors , comments or attitudes of their children. In these cases, it is established that the essential thing to carry them out is to follow these steps:

  • Do not resort to violence, neither verbal nor physical.
  • Aim for the reprimand to be constructive: that is, it helps them learn what they should not do.
  • Under no circumstances should adults use insults.
  • Comparisons with other children should be avoided: parents should not tell those who have behaved badly that, on the contrary, their siblings do everything well.
  • You must explain to them why they are being reprimanded, which must be clear, firm and direct. You should not use complicated words or vocabulary that children do not understand.

The reprimand in the abstract sense

In some cases, the reprimand is a public comment that may be abstract or even not have a defined or clear recipient. The technical director of a football team can reprimand his players in front of the press, telling journalists that if the team does not show a different attitude, he will present his resignation.

It can also be said that the market gives a reprimand to a company when its shares on the stock market plummet. In this case, the idea of the market is rather abstract, since the actors who actually act to cause the company's shares to lose value are not identified, nor are the reasons that lead to this fall mentioned.
