Relaxation

Relaxation is associated with physical and mental relaxation.

Relax is a concept in the English language that comes from relaxāre , a Latin word. According to the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ), relaxation is physical or mental relaxation that is achieved through various means.

People seek relaxation through different procedures. The objective is always to reduce the high level of stress and anxiety , the consequences of which on health are negative and can include everything from panic attacks to headaches , insomnia and depressive symptoms .

Search for relaxation

Meditation is one of the most chosen ways to achieve a state of relaxation. There are various techniques to meditate and concentrate attention on a specific object. This helps minimize nervousness.

Many individuals also turn to yoga to relax. Its techniques help improve body control and provide psychological and emotional stability , something that results in relaxation.

In addition to all the above, we cannot overlook that the practice of Pilates is also considered to help achieve relaxation. It is a discipline that appeared at the beginning of the 20th century and that allows the person to put aside stress and anxiety through exercises where breathing , mental control, muscle strength and coordination take center stage.

Book

There are people who seek relaxation through reading.

The spas

In recent years, a way to achieve the necessary relaxation has become especially fashionable. We are referring to going to a wellness center or spa. Hence, the number of spaces of this type in cities has increased considerably, where users are offered the possibility of using facilities such as jacuzzis, swimming pools, saunas and Turkish baths.

These spaces where the desired relaxation is achieved not only through water circuits but also through ambient music, dim lighting, aromatherapy and even massages.

Other relaxation techniques

Taking a trip, taking one or more days off (without obligations), reading a book, listening to music and watching a movie are other actions that people usually take to achieve relaxation.

It is considered that among the most peculiar ways to achieve relaxation are the following:

  • Do relaxation exercises with your face, making all kinds of grimaces and faces.
  • Go to laughter therapy classes.
  • Enjoy a good snack, where foods that are rich in vitamin C take center stage, since this reduces the hormone that produces stress and is called cortisol.
  • Smell citrus products.
  • Water the garden plants.

It is important to keep in mind that, beyond general advice, relaxation is something individual . That is to say: each subject must find their own way to achieve relaxation, since what works for some may not work for others. One man can relax when he drives his car for hours on a deserted road, while for another that same action can cause fear or restlessness, taking him away from relaxation.
