Rejoicing is an action that allows one to express satisfaction or joy . The concept is also used to name joy and happiness. For example: “The old man received the news with joy and began to applaud,” “To the delight of the men present, the young model wore a tight, low-cut dress,” “The rain did not dampen the joy of the neighbors, who continued singing.” and dancing all night.”
Joy is associated with pleasure and positive things. That which causes joy makes a person feel good, enthusiastic or happy. Because of this broad meaning, the most diverse things can cause joy.
Rejoicing in religion
We must not forget that rejoicing is also a term widely used within the religious sphere. Thus, it is used to show the satisfaction that a believing person can feel by attending a service, because it will make him feel in connection with God, or by undertaking a good action that has his neighbor as a beneficiary.
Precisely for this reason, there are even various religious songs that have the aforementioned word in their title, as would be the case of “Me regocijo”, by Gadiel Espinosa. This is a composition that has verses like these: “I rejoice in Jesus Christ because he has saved me. He has forgiven all my faults, through his love he has changed me…”
Within the musical field we can say that there are also some songs aimed at teachers and students in which the positive things about both of their daily lives are told.
The concept associated with food and entertainment
In many cases, joy is associated with food . When an individual can eat what he likes most, he experiences great joy. That's what a man who loves pasta will feel when he eats a plate of ravioli or a woman who loves chocolates when she has a box of chocolates at her disposal.
Joy is also linked to hobbies and recreational activities . A child can feel joy when playing a video game console, just as an adult can feel joy when watching a play or attending a concert.
Given the “reward” offered by what causes joy, it is common for human beings to do or choose things according to how joyful they find them. In their free time, a person will prefer to read a book or watch television rather than clean the house or work, since the first actions cause pleasure and the second are usually done out of obligation.
Book «Rejoicing in man»
To all of the above we can add that there are various literary works that have the word we are analyzing in their titles. One of them is “Regocijo en el hombre”, which was published in 1983 and won the Eugenio Nadal Prize.
It is written by Salvador García Aguilar and takes place in England in the 10th century. It is a historical narrative that brings us closer to what society and life were like at that time, while giving us the opportunity to reflect on some of the the transcendental issues of life such as love, death, destiny, power... It does all of this fundamentally by showing the contrast that is established between two opposing cultures: the Anglo-Saxon and the Viking.
