Refoundation is the process and consequence of modifying something substantially to ensure that it adapts to current events or so that it serves a different purpose than the original. It is, therefore, about founding something again.
It must be taken into account that to found is to build, constitute, establish or institute something . What is done with refoundation is to modify the essence or the pillars of what had been founded.
For example: “A group of young people demanded the refoundation of the party, dissatisfied with the authorities who have remained in their positions for more than twenty years” , “The Brazilian president requested the refoundation of Mercosur considering that the bloc is not complying with its objectives” , “The refoundation of the team must begin with strong work in the training divisions” .
Examples of refoundation
A non-governmental organization can be refounded when the context in which it carried out its work changes. Let's take the case of an entity that emerged to provide assistance to children in a rural community, offering them school support and feeding them. As time went by, those responsible for the NGO warn that many of the children's parents became unemployed, worsening the social situation of the town. Finally, it was decided to refound the organization , which also began to provide help to adults through free job training courses, financial aid for the development of productive ventures, etc.
The refoundation of a club , for its part, may imply abandoning professional sports to reinforce social and recreational work. Instead of investing in hiring professional athletes, the budget is allocated to improving the club 's infrastructure used by members.
Cases in politics
At the political level, we can highlight the existence of the Communist Refoundation Party . It is an Italian party that was launched in 1991 , after the country's Communist Party divided into two: the Democratic Party of the Left , headed by Achille Occhetto , and the first mentioned , which at first had Armando Cossutta as its visible head.
The objective of its creation was to ensure that an autonomous communist force was produced in that nation. Its current secretary general is Maurizio Acerbo and the formation is defined by being Eurocommunist, anti-capitalist, secularist, eco-socialist and also socialist of the 21st century.
In Spain we can mention the refoundation of Izquierda Unida (IU) in 2008 , after one of its most relevant figures, Julio Anguita from Córdoba, established that it was necessary to give the party a new direction, to face future challenges and contribute to have a more notable presence.
Based on these declarations and several congresses, this refoundation was finally carried out, which manifested itself by electing a new federal coordinator, Cayo Lara , who did not hesitate to integrate a group of people who came from different sectors of the party in order to put an end to what, he considered, internal struggles within the formation.
