Re-evaluation

Psychology

A reevaluation involves reassessing something.

Revaluation is a term that is not part of the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ), which does mention the word revaluation . However, organizations such as the Urgent Spanish Foundation ( Fundéu BBVA ) maintain that reevaluation is a correct notion that is already composed according to the rules of formation of our language.

Reassessment refers to the process and result of reassessing something (that is, re-evaluating it ). If we decide to stick only with what is specified in the RAE dictionary, in any case, we must use the term revaluation .

What is a reassessment?

A reevaluation or reevaluation, in short, consists of carrying out a new evaluation of something that had already been evaluated previously.

For example: "The reevaluation of the situation led us to reverse the measure: we have decided that the cultural center will remain open," "I did not pass the last exam because I was not feeling very well that day, but the teacher offered me a re-evaluation so that I can demonstrate my knowledge to you" , "There will be no re-evaluation since we have thought about the matter carefully and it is not necessary to go over the same again."

Money

The revaluation of one currency represents an increase in its value compared to another.

The concept in psychology

Within the field of health and psychology , there is what is called cognitive reappraisal . It is a psychological technique that is used when a problem or setback occurs in anyone's life.

It basically consists of analyzing the conflict from different perspectives, re-studying its origin and the steps that have been taken with respect to it so far and trying to check if there is any type of factor that has not been taken into account. This is a measure used by people who must face the obstacles that appear in their path.

Psychologists consider that this type of reevaluation is very positive for any individual when it comes to knowing themselves better and facing life. Therefore, those who wish to use the technique in their daily lives are offered a series of recommendations such as the following:

  • It is important that they are clear that emotions are part of being human, that they should not be hidden or repressed and that they should be assumed and lived with total freedom, without complexes of any kind.
  • You always have to reflect on the steps that have been taken to reach the specific point where you are. And that will mean seeing if mistakes have been made, how the problem can be solved, and what ways other people would use to end it.

Revaluation of a currency

A revaluation can also refer to an increase in the value of a currency . In this sense, revaluation is the opposite of devaluation (the loss of value of one currency compared to another or others).

When one currency increases its value in relation to another, changing the exchange rate, the currency that rose will have been revalued. Suppose that, at a certain time, one pound sterling can buy two euros. Two weeks later, a single pound sterling buys three euros. In that period, therefore, the pound sterling will have been the subject of a revaluation.
