Memory

Alzheimer's

There are diseases and disorders that make it difficult to preserve memories.

First of all, before analyzing the meaning of the term memory that concerns us now, what we are going to do is determine the etymological origin of this word. In doing so we discovered that it emanates from Latin, and more precisely from the word rememberi , which was composed of the prefix re -, which is equivalent to "again", and cordis , which is synonymous with heart.

A memory is the memory that is made of something that has already happened or that has already been talked about. The term is also used to name the notice or comment about the past . For example: “I always have my grandmother in my memory,” “I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I don't remember that situation,” “The town always keeps its heroes in its memory.”

A brain function and a psychic faculty

Memory, therefore, is associated with a brain function (resulting from synaptic connections between neurons) and a psychic faculty (the ability to retain the past ).

Thanks to the ability to contemplate the past, human beings are able to plan for the future . Memories can be linked to short-term memory or long-term memory . Animals, on the other hand, can only remember based on their present needs.

Difficulties preserving memories

When a person has problems retaining memories, they are said to suffer from memory disorders. The absence of memories, whether temporary, permanent, partial or total, is called amnesia . Other disorders are hypomnesia (decreased memory capacity), hypermnesia (increased memory capacity) and dysmnesia (quantitative memory impairment).

In the same way, we cannot ignore another disease that is closely associated with memories. This is Alzheimer 's, a neurodegenerative pathology that causes people who suffer from it to lose their memory, because the nerve cells die and, therefore, what would be the atrophy of certain parts of the brain occurs.

Thus, those who have this disease cannot remember things from their life, they are not able to recognize their family members, they find themselves with the fact that they do not know how to perform day-to-day tasks that they did before being sick...

Souvenir

A souvenir can be an object, such as a souvenir.

The object-bound term

The concept of souvenir is also used to name the object that is given as a symbol of affection or the thing that is kept to remember a person or an event .

“I brought you a souvenir from Brazil”, “Before I leave, I want to stop by the souvenir shop to buy something for my aunt.” y “That ring is a very important memory for me since it belonged to my father.” son frases que muestran este uso.

Forest of Remembrance

In addition to all this, it is interesting that we know that there is a monument in the world that is closely related to the word that we are now analyzing. This is the so-called Bosque del memoria , which is located in the famous Retiro Park in Madrid .

It was also known at the time as Bosque de los Ausentes and it was decided to build it following the attack on March 11, 2004 in which terrorist bombs placed on trains killed 192 people. And that is a tribute to all of these.
