Suspicion is the action and result of being suspicious . This verb is linked to maintaining a suspicion or conjecturing about something or someone.
For example: “Since she got divorced, María has not been able to overcome her suspicion of men,” “Why do you behave with so much suspicion? You need to trust someone” , “Once he got over his suspicion, the puppy was very friendly with everyone in the house” .
Suspicion as mistrust
Suspicion, therefore, is associated with distrust or somewhat excessive caution . Suppose a new neighbor moves into an apartment building. The newcomer shows some strange habits : he hardly leaves the house, makes noise at night and receives visitors at strange hours.
The people who already lived in the building, therefore, treat him with suspicion since he does not seem like a trustworthy individual to them. That's why they try to find out what he does and keep an eye on him, in some way.

One of the main areas where there are people who “suffer” suspicion from those in front of them is in love. Having had previous bad experiences or even being afraid of suffering are some of the circumstances that lead men and women to acquire a position of suspicion towards individuals who appear in their lives and who begin to show feelings for them.
The two aforementioned circumstances are the main “culprits” of the suspicion, but it is also possible to name the following:
- Knowing that when you are in love you can be more vulnerable, because you cannot have control over what will happen with that romantic relationship.
- Love is a situation in which, on many occasions, there is inequality. And there is the idea that there is always one of the parties that loves more than the other, that gives more or that cares more.
- There are also those who are wary of starting a romantic relationship because they may be afraid of losing the bit of autonomy, independence and freedom that they had until that moment.
- In the same way, we must not overlook that many individuals are also suspicious of those who declare themselves in love with them and willing to start a love story when from the first moment they say phrases like “I love you.” In those cases they think that they are being lied to, because it is impossible to feel so much from minute one.
- Distrust also appears in those who receive the rumor that the other person never commits or is unfaithful by nature.
Other considerations about suspicion
Animals can also act suspiciously. A dog that was abandoned by its owners is likely to be wary of people, at least for a while. Those who wish to adopt it will have to gain their trust so that the animal overcomes its fear and reintegrates into another family.
Caring for something with suspicion, on the other hand, consists of protecting it with impetus and vigor . A man who doesn't pay much attention to his car won't worry too much if someone scratches a door or if a hail storm dents the sheet metal. On the other hand, someone who takes care of their car with suspicion will always keep it indoors and will be attentive to any incident that may affect the vehicle.
