Definition of

national reality

World

The national reality of a country is given by all the events that happen in its territory.

The concept of reality is very broad and lends itself to all types of debates and analysis. It can be said that the notion refers to that which has an authentic and true existence , as opposed to what takes place in a fantasy framework or in the imagination.

National , for its part, is an adjective that refers to what is related to a nation . This idea (nation) refers to a country or the community of people that shares a territory and is governed by the same authority.

From these definitions, we can understand what national reality is: it is the set of events that happen in a country, which can be interpreted in multiple ways.

Characteristics of the national reality

In other words, the national reality is the same as the individual reality, which encompasses everything that exists objectively but perceived through subjectivity , with the difference that this is limited to the confines of a particular nation, taking take into account the social, political, cultural, spiritual and physical-natural aspects. Let us not forget, on the other hand, that all the beings that make up a nation are also part of its national reality.

Within the national reality we can find very varied events: political events, social issues, sporting events, cultural activities... Making a cut of the national reality, in short, can be very complicated.

CAEN's vision

As with many other concepts of this type, there are a large number of possible definitions, each one from a different point of view, since it is an abstract term based on another that is also abstract. The Center for Higher National Studies (also known by its acronym CAEN , a Peruvian academic institution that is responsible for training and perfecting military and civilian personnel in the fields of security, defense and development of the Nation), offers a complete formal definition of national reality.

The CAEN definition condenses in a very orderly way the elements that make up the national reality, and highlights certain nuances to take into account:

* the relationship between the situations, resources, knowledge, phenomena , media, etc., that are part of the national reality. These are not isolated issues, but it is only when their function and influence within the system are appreciated that they form part of this concept;

* their changing and dynamic nature . History teaches us that evolution is inevitable, that we cannot anticipate the reality of the future or prevent our environment, understood not only as the physical environment but also as culture, from changing;

* its potential character , since it not only studies what is possible to observe at the moment, but also contemplates different hypothetical situations that could arise from current reality;

* They are understood in a time frame . As defined in a previous point, national reality must always be understood in a historical context , in a specific era, since it is not possible for it to remain intact over the years.

National reality, objectivity and subjectivity

It is important, therefore, to understand the difference between objective reality and subjective reality . The objective refers to what actually happens, beyond the observer in question. The subjective, on the other hand, depends on its perspective. This means that the national reality can be analyzed from objectivity, taking concrete facts, and then interpreted from subjectivity.

It can be said, at a general level, that the media informs society of the national reality. In any case, we must not forget that any newspaper or news program is just a summary of what happens, made subjectively.
