A rave is a party associated with electronic music.
Rave is a term that is not part of the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ). It is, however, a concept frequently used to refer to a certain type of party .
A rave is an electronic music event that usually lasts all night. While a DJ is in charge of selecting and playing the music , the attendees dance. It is common for there to be sets of lights that accompany the rhythm of the music, creating a very particular atmosphere.

Beyond the strictly musical, there are various phenomena and behaviors that are usually associated with raves. On many occasions, the consumption of alcohol and illegal drugs is present at these types of events, leading to an association between electronic music and narcotics.
Of course, associations of this type are prejudiced and do not constitute absolute truths. There are many raves in which drugs are not consumed. In any case, it cannot be denied that there is usually a link between this type of party and the consumption of certain specific drugs, such as ecstasy and other amphetamines, just as reggae music is associated with marijuana .
It must also be taken into account that many of these raves are classified as illegal , since they take place in abandoned spaces and without having any type of license or security measures. A situation that, therefore, entails a lot of danger.

Main characteristics of these festivals
To all this we should add another series of characteristics of rave parties:
- They usually last a minimum of twelve hours.
- They usually take place in places that are far from cities.
- It is believed that this type of celebration began in London and from there it has spread throughout Europe and other corners of the planet.
- They are generally economical for attendees.
Leaving these issues aside, raves are considered great spectacles that can have significant cultural importance. There are DJs who are truly international figures, capable of bringing together thousands of people at a rave. In this sense, even when they are different issues, a parallel can be drawn between a rave and a rock concert or other musical show.

Under this name there are different genres of electronic music that are designed to be listened to and danced to at the aforementioned celebrations. Specifically, these are songs that are very fast and may include elements such as loops or samples.
