Palmistry

hand lines

Palmistry consists of the supposed interpretation of the lines of the hands.

Palmistry is a term that the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) also accepts as palmistry . Coming from the Greek language, it is a word that is the result of the sum of two components:

  • Khéir , which is synonymous with “hand” .
  • Mantéia , which can be translated as “divination” .

The concept refers to the practice that consists of anticipating the future of an individual through the interpretation of supposed signs that appear in the lines of their hands .

What is palmistry?

According to palmistry, it is possible to “read” a person's hands to access information about their health, their psychological characteristics and even their past and future . In this sense, palmistry is part of the occult sciences or pseudosciences . It is important to note that there is no scientific evidence to demonstrate that, in the folds and stripes of the hand, the “destiny” of a subject is written.

Palmists claim to have the ability to obtain personal data from observing the lines of the hand. The practice is developed as follows: the person must extend the left hand towards the palmist, with the palm facing up. The palmist will analyze the three major lines and all the minor lines of the hand and, based on what is observed, will begin to inform the individual what he or she detects.

Hand

According to its defenders, palmistry provides information about the personality of the individual.

The lines

Basically, we can establish that palmistry revolves around several lines, which are considered to reveal the past, present and future of a person in question:

  • Head line , which is considered the most important since, among other things, it establishes what the personality of the individual in question is like. From this it can be deduced that someone is intelligent, if that mark is deep, or that they are especially imaginative, when it is long.
  • Line of life . This is identified as being the one used in palmistry to determine what a person's life is like over time. This means, for example, that if it is found surrounding what is known as the Mount of Venus, it will be someone with a lot of vitality and strength.
  • Heart line , which refers to the emotional part of the person asking the question. It is considered that the longer, deeper and clearer it is, the more generous, affectionate and loving the person will be. Hence it is established that if it is short or if it is very thin, that individual will be very cold.
  • In the same way, in palmistry we also proceed to study other lines such as that of destiny , that of family or what is known as the Belt of Venus , which establishes how extroverted or not the person is.

Palmistry and faith

Since there is nothing to support the results of this practice, palmistry becomes a matter of faith . People believe or do not believe in what a palmist can tell them, since they have no way of demonstrating the validity of their supposed studies and analysis .

It is interesting to note that, due to belonging to the realm of paganism , at the time of the Inquisition palmists were punished and designated as witches.
