Brokenness can be a low mood.

Brokenness is the process and consequences of breaking . This verb can refer to violently breaking, destroying, desecrating or tearing apart . The term, however, has several symbolic uses.

Before moving forward, it is necessary that we know its etymological origin. In this sense, we can say that it is a word that derives from the Vulgar Latin crepantare , which in turn comes from the verb crepare . This, for its part, can be translated as “tear” or crunch .”

Different uses of the term bankruptcy

The notion of brokenness can refer to the loss of faith or a low mood. Within the field of gastronomy, the use of the term that concerns us now is also used. Specifically, it serves to give its name to a traditional Spanish dish. We are referring to the so-called duels and losses , which is typical of the cuisine of the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha .

In the chivalric novel “Don Quixote of La Mancha” , written by Miguel de Cervantes and which is considered the most important of all literature in Spanish, precisely that dish appears. How is it made? Making use of ingredients such as pork bacon, ham, chorizo ​​and scrambled eggs.

It is served in a clay pot and there are many theories about its creation and even its name. Regarding this last question, one of the ideas that gains the most strength is that it is named this way based on the religions that existed in Spain during past centuries. Specifically, it is called “brokenness” because of the fast on pork that Muslims and Jews had, and “grief” precisely because of the grief that people of those religions had once they skipped the aforementioned fast.
