Quadricycle

A quad is a four-wheeler or four-wheeler.

Quad is a term that does not appear in the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) . The concept, however, is used in various ways in our language.

A quad bike can be a four-wheeler , also known as a quad bike . It is a vehicle similar to a motorcycle or a tricycle, although, as its name suggests, it has four wheels . Quad bikes are often used in sports competitions in which sandy or uneven terrain is travelled.

The English name for quad bikes is all-terrain vehicle , which can be translated as all-terrain vehicle and is abbreviated as ATV . Although ATVs and quad bikes are exactly the same, the first term is usually used for recreational or agricultural purposes, while the second appears when used in sports .

Quads and safety

Quads are also used in coastal regions to explore the beach . It is important to note that there are rules and laws that establish the conditions of use of these vehicles and determine which areas can be explored with them. Riding a quad on a crowded beach is a great risk.

Beyond the need to comply with the regulations in force in each region , it is always necessary to keep in mind that a helmet must be worn when driving a quad.

Career

Quads are often used in competitions.

Historical tour

As for its history, it all began when, in the 1970s , motorcycle sellers grew tired of seeing their income decline during the bad weather months, and so they asked manufacturers to create a product suitable for use in such seasons . For a while, it was difficult for companies to abandon the two-wheeled concept, although they always came to the conclusion that it was not safe to ride on low-grip surfaces.

They eventually hit upon the design of motorized tricycles, which became popular under the name trikes . The public instantly fell in love with the new concept, and within a few years sales were widespread across the United States. Ironically, mass acceptance was also the cause of tricycles disappearing from the market , as they led to a large number of accidents and the Consumers' Association succeeded in having their production ceased by the late 1980s.

As expected, manufacturers were not going to give up all their creative and economic efforts, and for that reason they set to work in search of a new product, safer but equally attractive : the quad. Initially, its marketing focused on agricultural areas, but after a few years people began to use it in sports activities, such as competitions, and for personal leisure .

The quad was a huge hit in the marketplace, combining the principles that had made motorcycles such a popular product (their lightness and maneuverability) with the desires of the aforementioned marketers (they could withstand the elements and traverse any type of terrain).

Other uses of the term quad

The quad, on the other hand, is a unit of energy equal to 1.055 x 10 to the 18th power of joules. Quad core , on the other hand, is a type of computer microprocessor that has four individual cores .

In poker , quad is the game formed by having four cards of the same value or number.

The concept of the quad is also present in American government. Quad Cities is the name given to a metropolitan area consisting of three Illinois counties ( Rock Island , Henry and Mercer ) and one Iowa county ( Scott ). According to the latest statistics, about 380,000 people live in the Quad Cities .
