Praxis comes from a Greek term and refers to practice . It is a concept that is used in opposition to theory. The term is usually used to describe the process by which a theory becomes part of lived experience.
Praxis appears as a necessary stage in the construction of valid knowledge. Unlike theory, which is developed in classrooms and focuses on intellectual abstraction , praxis becomes present when these ideas are experienced in the physical world to continue with a reflective contemplation of their results.
The concept in Marxism
The concept has great importance for Marxism . This current of socio-political thought maintains that praxis is a type of practical activity typical of man, which is objective and subjective at the same time and which allows the human being to transform nature and, therefore, transform himself. .
For Marxists, praxis enables man to know nature and society , becoming aware of historical development. It is important to keep in mind that praxis presupposes behavior , since it is the result of previous behaviors of other specimens of the human species.
Praxis is formed, therefore, from the interaction of very complex cultural, historical and social systems . Ultimately, the human being becomes human through praxis.
Malpractice
It is known as malpractice , the poor performance of a professional, as a result of negligence. These unfortunate phenomena are more common in medicine than in any other field, and have serious consequences on the health and lives of patients. Let's see below some of the most serious cases recorded by journalism:
* Surgeon Rolando Pisanú, well-known and prestigious among famous Argentines, was accused in 2000 by one of his patients of having left her quadriplegic after multiple cosmetic surgeries . The sentence consisted of six months in prison, followed by a year and a half of disqualification from practicing his profession;
* There have been very numerous complaints from women against their gynecologists in Uruguay, given the terrible consequences that malpractice can leave in these cases, such as the accidental extraction of the uterus or the death of the fetus. Some of the doctors accused of the accusations assure that they are not errors on their part, but rather physiological issues of certain patients;
* Another of the favorite surgeons of Argentine entertainment, Roberto Zelicovich, awarded for years with the title of "the surgeon to the stars", had to face some complaints for irreparable damage to the faces of his patients, such as disfigurements due to severe burns. After many scandals, he decided to start a new professional life in Spain, but it was not long before the complaints came knocking on his door again;
* When malpractice affects a pregnant woman, the impact is usually greater, especially because these are people who do not come to the office on a whim, but because of a cultural issue, often difficult to avoid. The name of the anesthetist Héctor Amodio quickly became known after leaving one of his patients in a vegetative state due to excessive perforation when applying epidural anesthesia. Although she alleged that this error was one of the risks contemplated by medicine, her negligence consisted of leaving the victim completely unattended, ignoring her husband's concern;
* Finally, a 17-year-old girl was treated for a case of dengue, despite not having contracted it, and the consequences of this lack of ethics and compassion were brain death followed by death from an aneurysm (unusual dilation of a part of the vascular system).
