Slide

A slide is a component of a microscope . This is the name given to the piece on which what is intended to be observed is placed .

SlideAlso referred to as a slide , it is an additional sheet or plate to the device itself. It should be remembered that a microscope is an instrument that, equipped with lenses , allows the visualization of elements that are too small to be recorded with the naked eye.

The slide is usually a sheet of glass . The objects or substances that are to be examined with the microscope must be arranged on it.

Typically, the sample to be analyzed is placed on the slide and then the slide is placed under the microscope. There are also so-called coverslips , which are transparent sheets that are placed over the sample . Thus, in some cases the object is placed on the slide, then covered with the coverslip and finally observed through the microscope.

There is a wide variety of models of this type of slide on sale to meet all the needs of laboratories and microscopes: polysine adhesion, with beveled edges, matte, frosted, soda-lime glass, soda-lime glass, glass edgeless, precision glass…

Although there are slides with various characteristics, the most common are 1 millimeter thick and measure 75 x 22 mm . The researcher must place the sample ( microorganisms , tissues, etc.) on its surface and then insert the slide into the microscope. If you need to secure the sample, you can also use a coverslip.

Cavity slides , meanwhile, have one or two holes designed for the observation of large specimens, such as minerals or insects . The cavities also help to visualize particles that are in suspension.

Other slides have bands of color on their edges. This detail facilitates the task of sample identification .

However, we cannot ignore that the term slide that concerns us now is also used outside the scientific field. A good example of this is that there are storage compartments for the car. These, which can take the form of a tray, a net or even a bag, are designed to be placed in a vehicle and can be stored in them from water bottles to paper tissues, children's toys, documents, chargers...

This type of storage can be placed either in the back of the front seats of the car in question or in the trunk, essentially.

Likewise, there are also storage racks for bicycles. These are usually placed in the front box of the same and in them the person can store everything from the mobile phone to the house keys, as well as water or some type of food.

In the same way, there are models of this type of item to be placed in the bathroom. In this case, the objective is to be able to store everything from gel to shampoo, toothbrushes, hair removal tweezers, hair ties or towels, among other objects. Some are indicated to be placed inside the shower and others on any wall of said room.
