Porcelain

Floor

Porcelain tile is used in coatings.

Porcelain tile is a material that is used for covering floors and walls. This ceramic type product is manufactured from a combination of quartz, clays and other materials , which are molded, pressed, subjected to a drying process and treated at a temperature of more than 1,300 degrees Celsius.

The result is a compact and vitrified piece, which has great resistance to wear and absorbs a very low amount of water . In this way, porcelain tile offers benefits that cannot be found in traditional ceramics.

For example: “We have to choose the porcelain tile that we will install in the bathroom,” “They haven't brought the porcelain tile yet, so we can't continue with the renovation work,” “They have recommended porcelain tile to cover the kitchen floor.” ” .

Porcelain tile characteristics

Specialists affirm that porcelain tile has a resistance almost three times greater than ceramic against chemical action, scratching and wear in general. Thanks to the absence of pores, not only does it hardly absorb water, but it is also very easy to clean because it does not accumulate grease or dirt.

These characteristics make porcelain tile used in public spaces with a lot of traffic, such as an airport or a hospital , since the product has good durability and does not require great efforts for maintenance.

Decoration

It is possible to use porcelain tile in different types of decorations.

Advantages and disadvantages

There are various types of porcelain with very diverse colors , shapes and designs. Its installation, on the other hand, is simple: you just have to level the pieces and use glue.

In addition to all of the above, we must not overlook another important series of advantages that the aforementioned porcelain tile offers:

  • It offers great resistance to the passage of time, so buying this material is making an investment for the future.
  • No less important is that it also manages to provide a very modern as well as elegant finish.
  • The fact that the tiles are large prevents the floors and walls from having many joints that would spoil the “finish”.
  • It hardly requires maintenance, so it can be cleaned easily and without having to make a large financial outlay on very specific products.
  • There is a wide variety of prices on the market, so anyone can install it in their homes.

On the other hand, we must not forget that porcelain tile also has its disadvantages. In this sense, we have to say that among the cons that are most attributed to it are these:

  • Those with the polished effect scratch very easily, which means that they not only lose their shine quickly but can also look damaged very easily.
  • It is a decoration material that is not especially suitable for colder floors, since it does not provide any type of warmth. Hence, it is not recommended to decorate houses in cities with high temperatures either.
  • There are some colors that are especially dirty and quickly show marks of various types.
