Pineapple

The Latin word pinea came to our language as pineapple . The dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) recognizes more than a dozen meanings of the term.

PineappleThe most common use is linked to the fruit produced by pine trees and other trees. Their characteristics vary according to the species, although they are generally composed of triangular-shaped woody fragments.

Pineapple is also used as a synonym for the fruit of pineapple : a plant in the bromeliaceae family group. This large, yellowish fruit stands out for its fleshiness and its aroma .

With a sweet flavor, pineapple is a highly appreciated food in many regions of the world . It can be consumed fresh, but also preserved. In some cases it is eaten as a dessert and in others pineapple is included as an ingredient in different preparations.

Jams, ice creams , candies and yogurts, among other products, are made with pineapple. Its juice is also popular.

Many people, especially those who are following diets to lose weight, include the aforementioned pineapple in their diet. And they do it because this fruit has a series of very healthy properties, among which we can highlight the following:

-It provides many vitamins to the body, especially type A, B, C and E.

-It is considered to be a food that contributes to slowing down aging.

-In the same way, we cannot ignore that it improves intestinal transit. And that is because it provides a large amount of fiber.

-In addition, it must be emphasized that it promotes digestion and eliminates gases.

-No less significant is the fact that pineapple helps prevent fluid retention.

-In this list of benefits of eating pineapple we cannot forget that it strengthens the immune system.

These are the most significant advantages of taking the aforementioned fruit. However, we cannot ignore others such as that it improves blood circulation, that it turns out to be anti-inflammatory, that it helps eliminate fat and that it contributes to reducing cellulite.

The piña colada , on the other hand, is a cocktail made with pineapple, rum, and coconut cream. It is obtained by mixing the three ingredients with crushed ice until a creamy consistency is achieved. Although white rum is generally used, you can use golden rum.

The concept of pineapple also has various colloquial uses depending on the country. In several Latin American nations, a piña is a puñezo (a blow given with the fist). For example: "The player was expelled for giving a pineapple to a rival" , "If you continue bothering me, I will give you a pineapple" , "The boy attacked the policeman with pineapples and kicked him before being arrested" .

In the same way, we cannot ignore that in some countries, such as Peru, the term pineapple is used with another meaning. Specifically, it is proposed as a synonym for a person with a jinx or bad luck.

And that is without forgetting that in Venezuela, for example, it is used to mention a person who is very heavy.
