Heavy objects

Dumbbells are heavy objects that are often used for physical exercise.

Weights is a notion that refers to various issues. Generally, the term is associated with a heavy object that is used for physical exercise or in sports competitions .

If a person wants to exercise their arms to develop muscles in the area, they will likely use weights. The action of lifting this object repetitively will allow you to meet your objective. For example: "I have been lifting weights in the gym for two weeks and I can already notice the difference in my body" , "The trainer recommended weights filled with sand to exercise at home" , "I don't think I can lift such a big weight" .

These same pieces are used in an Olympic sport known as weightlifting . In this discipline, athletes must lift the heaviest weight they can, following certain rules: "The Russian athlete won the gold medal in weight lifting of 62 kilograms."

It is believed that weights, as a sporting element, were born thousands of years ago in China . They also have an extensive tradition in Greece and were even part of the first modern edition of the Olympic Games , held in Athens in 1896 .

Exercises with weights

Two goals that people who exercise with weights usually pursue are weight loss and muscle definition . Given that there are a large number of routines and that to perform them correctly it is necessary to follow a precise series of steps, the ideal is to consult with an expert before entering the world of dumbbells for the first time.

Consistency is a key element when performing any physical exercise, as is diet: it is not about eating little, but about eating properly to provide the body with the energy it needs for practices. In the fight against excess fat and flaccidity, a balanced, low-calorie diet is essential.

Let's look at some of the most common weight exercises:

  • Leg and chest : holding the weights with the arms stretched at both sides and with the palms facing inward, one leg is advanced while the hip descends, both knees are bent until they form a right angle and the arms are extended forward pressing the pectoral and rotating the hands so that the palms face down. Return to the starting position and repeat, always trying not to hunch your back.
  • Leg, shoulder and triceps : holding the weights in the same way as in the previous exercise, raise one leg, bending the knee so that the sole of the foot continues to face downwards, at the same time raising and extending the arm until The thigh is parallel to the floor. Those people who cannot maintain balance have the option of flexing both legs, converting the exercise into a type of squat.
  • Leg and biceps : the legs are slightly separated until the distance between the feet exceeds the width of the hips and the weights are held on both sides with the hands facing forward. The legs are bent until they reach a 90° angle, at the same time the arms are bent forward, bringing the weights closer to the shoulders.

Other uses of the term

Weights, on the other hand, are elements that are used to compare the weight of different bodies . These weights act as a counterweight to what you want to weigh.

Another use of the idea of a weight is linked to the piece that, attached to a thread, a rope or something similar, allows something to be lowered or raised, giving the necessary movement to a watch and carrying out other actions.
