Morbid

Voyeurism

Morbidity can be linked to philias and paraphilias such as voyeurism.

The term morbidity , which comes from the Latin word morbus , has several meanings. The first of them that the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) mentions in its dictionary refers to a disease .

Morbidity, in this framework, is associated with a health problem. These can be different types of inconveniences that affect the person's well-being.

Morbidity as a sick attraction

Morbidity is also called an unhealthy attraction to elements, situations or individuals . This is a behavior that is the opposite of a phobia : the morbidity implies an obsessive interest, while the phobia involves an aversion.

At this point we can stop to remember once again how diverse personalities can be: while some develop a sense of disgust for certain stimuli , others are attracted to them and relentlessly pursue them to feel pleasure. This leads us to reflect on the limits of morbidity, to know at what point it stops being a matter of taste and becomes a problem, both for the individual and for those around him.

The view of psychology

In the field of psychology, morbidity is linked to philias or, on a sexual level, to paraphilias. The various types of fetishism can be considered morbid, such as podophilia (sexual interest in feet), voyeurism (arousal from observation) and exhibitionism (getting pleasure from being naked in public).

In the previous paragraph we have three examples that help us continue with the approach to the limits of morbidity: sexual interests that can be satisfied in privacy with absolute consensus of all the parties involved should not be considered negative, since they do not harm anyone. However, the case of exhibitionism can become something dangerous, especially if the subject is shown in front of minors.

Society reacts with rejection to any custom or attitude that is outside the norm, whether positive or negative. That is why we must make the effort to stop and think before judging others. However, certain practices are easily condemnable because they affect the psychological development of the community in accordance with established rules, such as exhibitionism in which a child is the victim. Although the human body should not be a reason for shame, nudity and sexual functions are topics that each family should discuss with their children, to teach them to relate to them in a healthy and gradual way.

Victim

The attraction to bloody, violent or tragic events is mentioned as a morbidity.

The morbid and the dark or bloody

Morbidity is mentioned, on the other hand, as the attraction towards unpleasant, bloody, violent, dark facts and events, etc. Take the case of accidents that occur on public roads. If a car hits and kills a pedestrian, it is likely that many curious onlookers will come to see the body . The morbidity leads people to surround the remains of the victim simply to see how they looked after the impact.

This phenomenon is common throughout the world, and it brings out the worst in us. Nowadays, it is accentuated by the fact that we all have a camera at our disposal at all times. It's hard to believe that someone would take their phone out of their pocket and start filming or photographing the victim of an accident, instead of trying to help or respect their memory; However, it is the most common reality.

It is worth mentioning that there are those who feel attracted to the suffering of others . Therefore, taking advantage of this morbidity, there are TV programs that revolve around showing tragedies, presenting men and women who expose their pain before the cameras.
