Bracket

The etymological origin of the term corbel is found in Latin. Exactly it derives from "mensula", which can be translated as "little table".

The concept of a corbel is used in various ways. The first meaning mentioned by the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) in its dictionary refers to a board that is installed horizontally on a wall.

BracketThe term is usually used to name the L-shaped piece that is nailed or screwed to serve as support for a shelf . The brackets must be strong to support the weight of the shelf in question.

In the field of architecture , the corbel is the profiled element that is used to support or receive something , protruding from the vertical plane. It usually has several moldings.

Short corbels are small projections that allow supporting the start of a balcony or an arch, for example. The longer corbels, on the other hand, function as a structural pillar thanks to their length, acting similarly to a beam .

It is important to establish that there are different types of corbels, in addition to those already exposed. Specifically, among the most significant are the following:

-Inclined corbel, which is one that, as its name indicates, continues the inclination of the molding.

-Volume corbel, which is the one that, as its name already suggests, incorporates volutes that stand out on the sides.

-The mocheta corbel, which is also known only as the mocheta. This is used to support what is a tympanum or a lintel. Precisely for this reason it is placed, within an opening, at the top.

-Flat corbel, which is characterized by having a rectangular shape.

-Flush corbel, which is identified because the volutes do not protrude from the sides.

In the same way, we cannot ignore what is known as a corbel. This is another type of bracket that is usually made of wood. In the past it was used to help support the cornices. However, over time it has evolved and, currently, we can establish that it basically serves as a decorative element.

Iron, for shelves, folding or wall are other varieties of brackets that exist and can easily be found for sale. Not to mention that they can also be purchased in different colors.

For engineering , corbels are cantilevers : a type of beam characterized by being supported, through an embedment, on one of its ends and not on both.

La Ménsula , on the other hand, is the name of a restaurant that has three branches in the Spanish city of Málaga : in the center, in La Malagueta and in Pedregalejo . The first location was inaugurated in 1997 , standing out for offering several recipes of Andalusian gastronomy.

The octopus carpaccio with baby beans; smoked salmon sirloin with vinaigrette; and the baked lamb shoulder are some of the dishes that are part of the La Ménsula menu.
