Debauchery

Disco

Debauchery is associated with a lack of control and the absence of limits.

Before going fully into defining the term debauchery , we are going to determine its etymological origin. In this way, we will discover that it emanates from Latin and specifically from the sum of two very well differentiated parts: the word libertinus , which can be defined as that person who has no limits, and the suffix – aje , which is equivalent to set.

Debauchery is defined by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) as debauchery in works or words . By extension, debauchery is associated with moral violations and disrespect for religion .

The Libertine

The concept comes from libertine , which is the person who wastes his fortune on revelry and fun. This is usually a nihilistic and atheistic subject, who only cares about seeking bodily pleasures.

The libertine is born as a literary character given over to promiscuity and lack of control. In the 17th century , the term had positive connotations since it was associated with casualness, ingenuity and aristocracy. Already at the end of that century, the libertine began to relate to the debtor, the gambler or the alcoholic. It was around then that stories with moral content began to emerge that condemned debauchery.

Libertinism , on the other hand, is a cultural movement originating in the 13th century in Europe that promotes the free spirit. The libertines maintained that divine perfection was found in nature and that sin did not exist if man acted according to the natural attraction for physical pleasures.

Immorality

With debauchery, violations of moral rules occur.

What does debauchery consist of?

Whoever engages in debauchery is exhibiting a disrespectful attitude towards the law , ethics and morality . It is often said that debauchery is an abuse of freedom (freedom transforms into debauchery due to the lack of control or limits).

And freedom is the opportunity to carry out the actions you want, always assuming their consequences and adapting to the imposed legal rules, while debauchery is undertaking everything you want, without being subject to any type of rules, without respecting and facing the consequences of their actions.

Application of the concept

There are many fields that are established as areas where debauchery can take place. Thus, it is considered that, from a social point of view, it would be present in all drugs, in their addiction, and even in theft to get what one wants.

In the field of economics, debauchery is shown through the uncontrolled waste of money on all types of luxuries and whims. Of course, this term also acquires a relevant presence in the case of religion and it establishes very clearly that this should not occur, since people must abide and strictly comply with the ten commandments: do not kill, do not commit impure acts, do not lie, do not steal, do not covet other people's property...

“Libertinaje” is also the name of the fourth album by the Argentine rock band Bersuit Vergarabat . It was published in 1998 and has twelve songs.
