Interpretation

Translator

Interpretation can be associated with translation.

Interpretation , from the Latin interpretatio , is the action and effect of interpreting . This verb refers to explaining or declaring the meaning of something, translating from one language to another, expressing or conceiving reality in a personal way, or executing or representing an artistic work.

Interpretation, therefore, can be the process that consists of understanding a certain fact and its subsequent declamation . For example: "According to my interpretation of the film, the protagonist's daughter had not suffered a robbery, but rather lied to receive her father's protection," "I think journalists are making a wrong interpretation of our team's approach." » , «I'm sorry, but your interpretation of the problem is not correct» .

Interpretation as translation

When a text or speech is translated , for example, we talk about interpretation since the translator facilitates understanding: "I need to hire someone to help me with the interpretation of what Chinese investors say," "Thank you." to María's interpretation, we have been able to chat with the Italian relatives without any problem" , "The artist left very angry as he thought that the translator's interpretation was not adequate."

The differences between two languages are not always obvious, especially if they are two languages that share roots and that seem very similar to the naked eye. Taking Spanish and Italian as an example, it is important to keep in mind that despite their similarity, each one presents very own elements, especially in the grammatical aspect, which distinguishes it from the other and makes its careful study essential to be able to understand it and dominate it.

Many people mistakenly believe that to understand a language it is enough to recognize certain words and deduce the rest from the context . In addition, there are terms known as false friends , which have very similar spelling in two languages but a very different meaning. Basing interpretation on the appearance of words can only lead to mediocre results and dangerous confusion.

The key to a correct interpretation of a foreign language lies in learning to think like someone who speaks it from birth does, to feel its terms before giving them an equivalent in ours. This represents a great challenge and can only be achieved after many years of constant and responsible dedication, but it is an invaluable resource.

Artist

An artist's performance can be referred to as interpretation.

artistic expression

The performance of an actor, a musician or other artist on stage is also known as an interpretation: "The spectators were fascinated by the veteran actor's interpretation of the king of England" , "The interpretation of several songs by his previous band was very applauded by those present" , "Charly García accompanied Joaquín Sabina in the performance of two songs during the Spanish singer-songwriter's last recital" .

One of the secrets to a good performance that many great artists have shared throughout history is not to show your own insecurities during the performance . In the words of the Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, "the spectators are not to blame for our problems and while we are on stage we should not make them bear them." Furthermore, out of respect for the authors, it is very important not to soil their works with personal interference.

The script is the first source of the message that must be sent to the public , and it is enriched in various ways and with as many tools as each artist wants and can take advantage of. When the time comes for the performance, whether live or to be recorded, any element unrelated to the character construction process is counterproductive, becomes evident and puts the work and the effectiveness of communication with the audience at risk.
