Intensity

Force

The notion of intensity can be associated with the level of force or effort.

The etymological origin of the word intensity is found in Latin, which is the result of the sum or union of three clearly differentiated particles: the prefix – in which is equivalent to “inwards”, the word tensus which is synonymous with “extended”. and finally the suffix – dad which means “quality”.

Intensity is the level of force with which a magnitude, a property, a phenomenon, etc. is expressed. Intense, therefore, usually refers to vehement or impetuous. For example: “The cyclist showed great intensity in the last stage and won the competition,” “The band has a special intensity live,” “Love must be lived with intensity.”

Thus, with respect to the sentimental or emotional aspect, it is common to use the term intensity to refer to that strength that one has at certain moments in that sense. A clear example could be the following: “Juan Antonio lived his wedding with such intensity that he could not help crying at the end of the ecclesiastical ceremony.”

Current intensity and luminous intensity

The intensity of the current is a magnitude that reflects the level of electricity that manages to pass through a conductor in a certain period of time. It is the circulation of a charge that, through the action of the mobility of electrons , passes through a body.

The ammeter is the tool that allows quantifying the intensity of the electric current. This device is a galvanometer that has a parallel resistance (called shunt ) that allows it to work with different measurement ranges.

Luminous intensity , on the other hand, is the magnitude that reveals the flux of light emitted by a source in a given direction per unit of solid angle (the candela ).

Lighthouse

Luminous intensity is linked to a light flux.

The concept in sound

Another type of intensity is sound intensity , a physical quantity that analyzes sound waves to indicate their amplitude according to the unit known as a fonio . It can be said that sound intensity is the acoustic power that a wave transfers per unit area to the orientation of propagation.

In the field of sound we must not ignore what is known as musical intensity either. This term can be defined as that quality that differentiates a loud sound from a soft one and vice versa. Specifically, it is considered that this is one of the four characteristics that sound has, which also include timbre, duration and pitch.

In this sense, psychoacoustics gains special importance, which is characterized by being the science that is responsible for carrying out the study of these aforementioned qualities.

Accent strength and encryption strength

Likewise, we cannot ignore what is known as accent intensity. A name that is usually defined as that type of accent that makes a syllable stand out from the rest thanks to the fact that it is pronounced with a greater and more forceful expiratory force.

For cryptography , finally, encryption strength is linked to the number of available keys that can be used in an encryptor. This quantity or length is usually expressed in bits , since current cryptography generally uses binary keys.
