Definition of

Insecurity

Delinquency

The idea of insecurity is often linked to the possibility of being the victim of a crime.

The dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) defines insecurity as the lack of security . This concept, which derives from the Latin securĭtas , refers to that which is free of danger, harm or risk, or which is certain, firm and indubitable.

More precisely, we can determine that this word, based on its Latin etymological origin, is made up of the union of several parts: the prefix - in which is equivalent to negation, the word se which can be translated as "separate", curus which is synonymous with "care" and finally the suffix - dad which is equivalent to "quality".

Therefore, insecurity implies the existence of a danger or a risk (for example, "there is a lot of insecurity in this neighborhood, I have already been assaulted three times" ), or it reflects a certain doubt about a given matter ( "Working with this machine makes me feel insecure, I don't know how it works" ).

Insecurity linked to crime on public roads

Just as there are different types of security (food security, legal security, etc.), the term insecurity can have various uses. One of them is applied to everyday or citizen security, which refers to the possibility of suffering a crime in public places . In this sense, insecurity is combated with the presence of police forces on the streets.

In Spain, in recent years, and perhaps influenced by the current global economic crisis, there has been a considerable increase in home insecurity. More and more people are seeing their homes burglarized by criminals who enter the house ready to steal everything of value. This fact often causes the inhabitants of the home not only to suffer a normal fright but also considerable bruises, as some of these thieves do not hesitate to use forceful violence to achieve their goals.

Cybercrime

Computer insecurity is associated with the violation of a person's personal data through the Internet for criminal purposes.

Cybercrime

Computer insecurity refers to the possibility that a cybercriminal may illegally access a person's computer equipment or data. In this way, the intruder can steal the user's bank passwords or infect their computer with malicious software.

It should be noted that hacking is the direct intrusion into a computer system using a vulnerability. Therefore, the hacker takes advantage of computer insecurity, although their objective is not always theft. There are hackers who enter systems to demonstrate the lack of security and ask for the creation of a patch to solve the problem.

Emotional insecurity

Likewise, we must not overlook the reference to what is known as emotional insecurity . This term defines the feeling of fear and nervousness that some people have as a consequence, among other things, of the image and perception they have of themselves.

Thus, believing that they do not have certain abilities, that they are not worth anything, together with their lack of confidence in their possibilities, are the causes that lead someone to have emotional insecurity.
