Inhumation

Burial

Burial consists of the burial of a person's mortal remains.

The origin of the term inhumation is found in Latin. Specifically, it emanates from "inhumatio", which can be translated as "action and effect of putting underground" and which is the result of the sum of several lexical components of said language:

-The prefix «in-«, which is equivalent to «no» or «without».

-The noun "humus", which can be translated as "earth".

-The suffix "-cion", which is used to indicate "action and effect."

What is burial

The action of burying the mortal remains of an individual is known as inhuming . The act and result of burial , meanwhile, is called burial .

Burial, burial, burial or burial are the three main words that function as synonyms for inhumation. On the contrary, among its antonyms is exhumation.

How the process is carried out

Burial takes place when a person's body is buried . This is the most common method for disposing of the body after death : the remains are placed in a coffin, which is placed in a niche, in a crypt or buried. There is also the possibility of incineration .

It is important to mention that death gives rise to various ceremonies that depend on the culture and that usually vary with the time. Many times a wake is held, which is a gathering of the loved ones of the deceased, who come together to pay tribute and say goodbye. Once the wake concludes, the dead person is transferred to the cemetery for burial or cremation.

In any case, funeral rituals can differ greatly from each other. Religion plays a very important role: in some the body is shrouded and buried directly.

The moments prior to the burial, in short, have more or less relevance depending on cultural, historical, religious and even personal factors. There are individuals who record their decision not to have a wake and who even ask to avoid burial, choosing to be cremated.

The way inhumation takes place depends on the culture.

Burial rites

Specifically, among the most common or well-known burial rites we can highlight the following:

-In Christianity, the body is buried in a coffin and it is common for it to be sprinkled with holy water by the priest.

-In Islam, the deceased person is washed several times and also perfumed and then wrapped in a white sheet. A stone is placed under his head when buried and the right side of it faces Mecca.

-In the case of Judaism, the body of the dead is washed and covered with a shroud . It is then placed in a coffin and buried.

-In Hinduism the deceased is washed and dressed in new clothes and then cremated on a pyre. Their ashes are scattered in the Ganges River or in another area where there is water.

In a practical sense and devoid of deeper implications, burial is a measure that defines the fate of the remains of the deceased. When buried in a certain cemetery, the subject will rest there forever unless someone decides otherwise and takes him to another place.
