Definition of

Inefficiency

The absence of effectiveness is called ineffectiveness . The concept comes from ineffectiveness , a late Latin word. We can establish that this Latin word is the result of the sum of several lexical components, such as the following:

-The prefix «in-«, which means «no» or «without».

-The prefix «ex-«, which is equivalent to «outwards».

-The verb "facere", which can be translated as "make".

-The suffix "-ia", which is used to indicate "quality."

InefficiencyEfficiency, for its part, is the capacity or power to achieve the desired effect . This means that ineffectiveness means the impossibility of obtaining the desired or expected result .

For example: "This type of protest has shown its ineffectiveness in bringing about real changes" , "The ineffectiveness of the government in its fight against insecurity is alarming" , "Various tests demonstrated the ineffectiveness of this substance in stopping the fall of the hair" .

Incapacity, uselessness, clumsiness , ineptitude, incompetence, nullity or invalidity are some of the words that act as synonyms for ineffectiveness. On the contrary, among its antonyms we find terms such as usefulness, competence, validity, effectiveness or capacity.

Take the case of an insecticide . Its manufacturer makes advertisements on TV where it states that the product allows you to eliminate mosquitoes instantly, simply by applying the spray on the insect . A person who acquires the insecticide begins to spread it on a wall covered in mosquitoes, but the animals do not die and do not even move away. This proves the ineffectiveness of the article.

The idea of inefficiency can appear in the field of sport . A basketball player who, in a game, shoots ten times at the hoop and only makes a basket once, is not being effective. He made ten attempts and met his goal on one occasion: the success rate of 10% reflects his inefficiency.

A soccer team, meanwhile, suffers from inefficiency if it handles the ball for 80% of the game and its players kick the goal 14 times without scoring goals. If your opponent kicks once and scores, the team that dominated possession and attacked the most ended up losing.

In the field of Law, the word that concerns us now is also used. Specifically, we speak of the ineffectiveness of the legal act that occurs when the aforementioned legal act does not generate its effects or when it stops doing so either for an extrinsic or intrinsic cause.

In that case, we must know that there are several types of ineffectiveness of the legal act. Exactly, among the most significant are expiration, eviction, nullity, legal non-existence, suspension, resolution, rescindability, revocability, unenforceability, simulation...

Precisely that question and other similar ones that are addressed in depth in works such as "Ineffectiveness of legal acts", which was published in 2018 and written by Ernesto Cediel Ángel, or "Ineffectiveness and termination of the legal business. The unfair advantage", which is made by María Linacero de la Fuente.
