Incongruity

The notion of incongruence derives from the Latin word incongruentia , which is a word that is presented as the result of the sum of several lexical components of said language:

-The prefix «in-«, which is synonymous with «without» and «no».

-The prefix «with-«, which is used to indicate «globally» or «totally».

-The verb «gruere», which can be translated as «to coincide».

-The suffix "-ia", which is used to indicate "quality."

The term allows reference to the absence of congruence (logic, coherence).

IncongruityFor example: "The referee's inconsistency was notorious: faced with the same situation, on occasions he called a foul and on other occasions, he did not charge anything" , "That the candidate for mayor has never lived in the city is an inconsistency" , "I'm already tired of your inconsistencies: you always ask me to borrow money because you say you don't have enough to eat and yet you spend your time in bars and partying .

Among the terms that function as synonyms for incongruity, we can highlight some such as incoherence, nonsense, anachronism, inconsistency or barbarity. On the contrary, among its antonyms there are words such as success, success, coherence or congruence.

An incongruity is recorded, therefore, when there is no agreement or conformity between two or more elements that should be harmonious or have the same meaning . The existence of an incongruity marks a dissociation or foolishness.

Suppose a man presents himself as a communist militant and claims that he would like to overthrow the capitalist system. However, he has an account in an international bank , makes investments in the stock market and has four properties that he rents to live off the income. It can be stated, therefore, that there is an incongruity between what this guy says and what he does: a communist should be against big capital.

In the field of Law, the term in question is also used. Specifically, we talk about what is known as omissive inconsistency. A short ruling is also known as one that is a defect in a specific ruling that occurs when the corresponding judicial body leaves unanswered some of the claims that are submitted to its consideration by some of the parties to the process.

Likewise, there is also the so-called extra petita inconsistency, which is a defect in a sentence. This occurs when the judicial body rules on a claim that was not deduced by the parties or grants something that has not been requested. Either of these two actions of the aforementioned body brings with it a clear mismatch between the ruling and the terms of the claims of the two parties involved.

The World Health Organization ( WHO ), on the other hand, calls transsexuality gender incongruence . For a long time, transsexuality was considered a disorder, although the WHO later classified it as a condition related to sexual health. Some associations that defend the rights of transsexuals, however, maintain that the concept of gender incongruence is stigmatizing.
