Imperative

Boss

Those who have the capacity to command and exercise it without hesitation are classified as imperative.

Originating from the Latin imperatīvus , the term imperative describes someone who rules or is capable of commanding or dominating . To cite some examples of use: “My boss is an imperative man who does not accept suggestions or advice” , “Sometimes you have to be more imperative in life” , “We need an imperative coach, capable of keeping the youngest players under control" .

Imperative, say the theoretical definitions, also identifies the duty or the inexcusable demand (those actions that do not admit excuses or excuses, cannot fail to be carried out or cannot be avoided with pretexts): “Excuse me but I cannot attend the party, it occurred to me a work imperative” , “I am calling to cancel my shift, I must comply with an imperative that prevents me from attending this afternoon” .

The moral imperative

We speak of a moral imperative , however, to refer to the obligation that one imposes on oneself in ethical matters . For Kantian ethics, the categorical imperative constitutes the autonomous and self-sufficient commandment that regulates the behavior of people in its various manifestations.

Specifically, this aforementioned categorical imperative, its creator established that it was based on three basic and fundamental principles, the first of which determined that a person must act humanely both for himself and for others and always having a clear purpose with it.

The second pillar of that imperative is the one that made it clear that, in the same way, it had to act trying or desiring that its action would reach levels of universal maximum. And the third and last “law” of this theory of Kant was that this individual should be considered as a legislator in that world of universal ends when carrying out his different actions.

Point out

In grammar, the imperative mood is used to make commands or convey orders.

In the same way, we cannot ignore the term legal imperative. With it, it is defined that a specific action is an obligation that is not only legally registered as such but is also binding from a legal point of view.

An example of an action that is considered in this way is the one that takes place in Spain with respect to the advertising of political parties during the corresponding electoral campaigns. Thus, it is established that when that advertising appears on any television in the country, it must be on the screen as a subtitle that is advertising or electoral propaganda. In this way, anyone who turns on the television is prevented from mistakenly thinking that what they are watching is news.

imperative mood

The imperative mood , finally, is a grammatical modality that is used to issue orders, make mandates or exhaustive requests. In the Spanish language, this mood is one of the four grammatical variants of a finite nature (as occurs with the subjunctive, indicative and conditional).

Various examples of conjugated sentences in the imperative mood: “You sit down,” “You sit down,” “You shut up ,” “You shut up,” “You guys go,” “Let's get out of here,” “Get out of here.”

It should be noted that there are differences between the use of the imperative in the Spanish of Spain and the Spanish of Latin America : “Come back later” / “Come back later” , “Come right now to my office” / “Come right now to my office” ” .
