Beautiful

Although there are different theories about the term beautiful that concerns us now, the one that is most relevant is the one that establishes that it derives from Latin. Specifically, it establishes that this adjective comes from the word “formosus”.

The term is used to describe that or that which has beauty ( beauty ).

BeautifulFor example: “Your son is beautiful! Congratulations” , “The landscapes of this province are beautiful” , “When I moved, my aunt gave me a beautiful painting that I hung on the wall of my room” .

Beautiful, handsome, pretty, precious, dashing, cute or adonis are some of the words that are used as synonyms for beautiful. On the contrary, its antonyms include some such as ugly, deformed, unsightly, hideous or unpleasant, for example.

The qualification of beautiful is usually linked to physical beauty . Beyond the subjectivity of this notion, it can be associated with aesthetic criteria shared by most people: harmony, color, etc.

In a Western society, a young man with a toned body, light eyes, and blonde hair is likely to be singled out as a beautiful man . The current beauty parameters include these physical characteristics. On the other hand, a beach with white sands and crystal clear waters will also surely be mentioned as beautiful.

The beautiful can also refer to a symbolic or abstract condition . Someone who claims that they had a beautiful moment with their loved ones will be alluding to how much fun they had and the pleasant sensations that that situation caused them. When we talk about a beautiful day , meanwhile, we have in mind peaceful and pleasant weather conditions. A sunny morning, with open skies and no wind , can be mentioned as a beautiful morning.

In the same way, we cannot ignore that beautiful can also be found as a surname. A good example of this is the Spanish actor Miguel Hermoso Arnao (1791), who is known for his work in television series such as “Tell me how it happened”, “Amar es para siempre”, “Yo soy Bea” or “Las adventures del Captain Alatriste.”

Likewise, we must not forget the soccer player Mario Hermoso (1995), who is from Madrid and who currently plays as a defender for Atlético de Madrid, with whom he plays in the First Division.

In the field of literature we find works that have used the term in question in their titles. This would be the case, for example, of the novel “The Beautiful and the Damned,” which was published in 1922 and was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It revolves around Anthony, a young man who dedicates himself to living life waiting for his grandfather to die so that he can access an immense fortune. However, everything will change when he dies, leaving him nothing.

The word beautiful, finally, appears in the name of different places. Monte Hermoso is a district of the province of Buenos Aires ( Argentina ), while several cities are called Valle Hermoso in different countries.
