Hermeticism

Preserve

Airtightness is essential to ensure the good condition of a preserve.

Hermeticism is the property of that which is hermetic : closed, inviolable, closed. The concept can be used to refer to a physical characteristic or symbolically.

For example: “The secrecy of this room is astonishing: nothing enters or leaves” , “There is a lot of secrecy in the club regarding the situation of the Paraguayan player” , “The funeral of the former president took place in complete secrecy” .

Many times the idea of hermeticism is used to refer to what happens when certain information is not disseminated or transcended . Suppose two football teams negotiate the transfer of a player. While negotiations are underway, none of those involved are releasing details. That is why the media talk about the secrecy surrounding the operation.

Hermeticism as a doctrine

Hermeticism is also called a religious and philosophical doctrine that is based on a series of texts attributed to the Greek Hermes Trismegistus (which can be translated as “Hermes, the three times great” ). This historical figure is noted as a wise man who devised a metaphysical system that is currently called hermeticism.

In this context we can recognize the so-called hierarchy of noûs , which originates in the four moments that make up the same process . Let's see the four noûs below:

* divine : this is the recognition as absolute truth of God's thought, which represents the highest peak of knowledge;

* of eternity : it consists of knowing the functioning and scope of God's work;

* cosmic : arises from observing all things and results in a knowledge of nature;

* human : the one on which man relies to understand and manage the world, through the memory of past events.

Laboratory

Hermes, whom some point to as the father of alchemy, is the creator of the doctrine known as hermeticism.

The creation of the cosmos

Hermeticism believes that God created the cosmos through the word, that is, his thought became activity through the divine Word. The man can think and speak, two abilities that can make him immortal. The word and the voice are not indistinct, since the former can have in itself the value of thought and, therefore, be filled with power and wisdom.

In thought we find the word , and that is why it is common to every human being; It is the voice that is the element that differentiates one from the other. Given that Hermeticism has its origins in Egyptian culture, it is not strange that it enjoys a highly symbolic language, not very close to other philosophical theories. For hermeticism, silence is preferable to a word that is not infused with noûs .

Another concept related to Hermeticism is Pneûma , a cosmic impulse that orders the trajectory of the stars and gives life to all beings. It is the ether that allows astrological and magical procedures to be carried out, a substance that the stars have in common to perform their miracles. Eternity , on the other hand, is a divine attribute and of creation, the pillar that supports it.

Different views on Hermes and hermeticism

Hermes is also noted as the father of alchemy . However, there is no evidence to confirm the existence of this thinker, which is why there are those who believe that he is a fictional character whose biography was built over the course of history.
