Border

Cordillera

A mountain range can serve as a border between two countries.

A border is a conventional line that marks the border of a State . Borders can be delimited physically (with walls or fences ), although this is not always the case. That is why we speak of a convention: the different countries agree to the extent of their respective limits; By passing this limit (the border), you enter the territory of the neighboring country.

The border, therefore, marks a sovereignty . The government of a country has authority within the limits of its borders. What happens beyond, even a few meters away, is beyond your concern, as long as it does not affect your national interests.

Border types

Borders can be land, although there are also maritime, river, lake and even air borders.

Likewise, when talking about borders we also have to make it clear that there is a wide typology of them. Thus, for example, in addition to those already mentioned, we can refer to what cultural, social or economic borders are. The latter are those established taking into account financial issues.

However, we must not forget the existence of what are known as natural borders which, as their name indicates, are those that separate territories through a geographical feature, be it a mountain, a valley or a river, for example.

Controls and patrols

Every border is usually monitored to prevent the illegal entry of immigrants or prohibited products (such as drugs or contraband objects).

The border between the United States and Mexico , for example, is one of the most guarded in the world, since thousands of Mexican citizens try to enter the northern country in search of a better living condition, despite the fact that, on many occasions, they are not They meet the legal requirements necessary to enter the neighboring country.

Wiring

It is common for States to install fences or build walls to protect their borders.

In this sense, we have to highlight that Spain has a series of borders that periodically become news in the various media due to the large number of people who try to jump over them. We are referring to the three borders that it maintains with Morocco: in Melilla, in Ceuta and in Vélez de la Gomera.

And there are many African inhabitants of that country who devise all kinds of actions to be able to jump the metal fences that separate them from Spain with the clear objective of trying to find a better future outside their nation.
