Fatal

The adjective fatal , coming from the Latin word fatālis , refers to that which is bad, sad or tragic . Fatal events usually have definitive consequences or are very difficult to reverse.

FatalFor example: "The young man suffered a fatal car accident when he was heading towards his parents' house" , "A fatal fight at the exit of the stadium ended with one man dead and three seriously injured" , "The boy ingested a fatal dose of the medication and died a few hours later."

The fatal is unhappy or unfortunate . If an elderly person slips in the shower and dies as a result of a blow to the head when he fell, it can be said that this person suffered a fatal accident .

What is bad is also described as fatal. A journalist can affirm that a basketball player had a fatal game if he missed all seven shots he made, lost six balls, and committed five personal fouls. In a similar sense, an individual who was late for work because his car broke down, lost his glasses, and learned about a friend's health problem had a terrible day .

In numerous cultural works, the term in question has been used to title them. This would be the case, for example, of the American film “Fatal Attraction”, which was released in 1987 and was directed by Adrian Lyne. It had a total of six Oscar nominations.

Michael Douglas, Glenn Close and Anne Archer are the actors who star in this psychological thriller film that tells the story of a married man who decides to have an affair with a strange woman to whom he feels very attracted. The situation between the lovers will become complicated when she follows him everywhere, tries to spend all her time with him, begins to investigate aspects of his private life, begins to get closer to his family...

In the same way, we cannot ignore the existence of the novel “Fatal”, written by Jean-Patrick Manchette and published in 1972. It is a work of the noir genre that revolves around a murderess and her peculiar motivations for carrying out the crime of different characters.

The expression femme fatale , on the other hand, refers to a member of the female gender who, due to her charms, exerts an irresistible attraction on men. The fatal thing would be given, according to this criterion, that the man would be capable of doing anything - even something unfortunate - in order to be with the woman in question. Even someone who appeals to her sensuality to obtain benefits from the men she captivates is often considered a femme fatale.

Likewise, we cannot ignore that one of the most popular songs in the history of music in Spain is “What is a girl like you doing in a place like this?” It also has that concept of femme fatale in its lyrics. Specifically, it says like this: «Fatal woman, always with problems. What's in your eyes, baby? Or are you going to cry?”
