Expectation

Hope

Expectation is associated with what is expected.

The hope, dream or illusion of realizing or fulfilling a certain purpose is known as expectation (a word derived from the Latin exspectātum , which translates as “looked at” or “seen” ). For example: “I have the expectation of achieving something great with this boy” , “I want to return this television: the truth is that it did not meet my expectations” .

In addition to all of the above, we cannot ignore the fact that we use this term to construct an adverbial phrase: “in expectation.” What it tries to express is that a person is not going to carry out any type of action or make a decision about something specific until they see what happens.

Thus, for example, someone who wants to buy a house but thinks that their company is going to assign them to a new position outside the city will be waiting to see if they will finally grant them said job to acquire a home in their city or in the new destination where they could send you.

Expectation as possibility

It should be noted that, generally, expectation is associated with the reasonable chance that something will come to fruition . For expectations to be born, they need to have some kind of support. Otherwise, it would just be a simple desire that could have irrational roots or be driven by issues linked to faith.

If, for example, a considerable number of gray clouds cover the sky, people's expectation will be that it will rain. That is why the response to this expectation will be to go out with an umbrella to avoid getting wet when the rain starts.

Confidence, predictions and forecasts

Another detail to keep in mind is that expectation appears after uncertainty , at times in which it has not yet been confirmed what may happen. The expectation, then, consists of placing confidence in what is considered most likely to occur: it is, in short, an assumption that, depending on the circumstances, may be more or less realistic. When expectations are not met, the individual will experience disappointment ( “I thought you would like this gift, but I see that my expectations were wrong.” ). On the other hand, if initial expectations are exceeded, the subject will feel joy at the surprise experienced ( “This album is wonderful, it exceeded all my expectations” ).

Prediction

Forecasts generate an expectation.

In other words, it can be said that expectations are linked to predictions and forecasts . The higher the level of certainty about the future, the greater the chance that expectations will be met: “There is a very high expectation for the president's announcement, since several ministers indicated that it will be beneficial for the economy.”

The expectations cards

In the same way, it is also important that we emphasize that other equally relevant words are formed with the concept at hand. This would be the case of what are known as expectation letters or letters. This is a name that describes all the letters or documents that are made by the Pope or Pontiff and that have a clear mission.

More precisely, in these letters what is expressed is that a specific person is granted either a job or a specific benefit or dignity. Although we have mentioned that they are carried out by the visible head of the Church, these types of texts can also be carried out by kings or by the supreme commanders of a company in favor of one of its employees.
